Telecommunications provider Swoop has named Tomas Diaz as the new Head of Moose Mobile.

Mr Diaz joins Swoop after a substantial tenure in the telecommunications industry, including his previous role as Consumer and SMB General Manager at Symbio. His appointment comes nearly two years after Swoop's acquisition of Moose Mobile in November 2022.

Swoop's Chief Executive Officer, Alex West, expressed his enthusiasm over the new appointment, noting Tomas Diaz's wealth of experience. "I am delighted that Tomas Diaz is joining us at Swoop as the new Head of Moose Mobile. Tomas's impressive career and wealth of experience will be a tremendous asset," he stated. Mr West further highlighted Mr Diaz's ability to drive growth and enhance profitability, saying, "Throughout his career Tomas has demonstrated an exceptional ability to drive growth, enhance profitability, and improve customer experiences through strategic planning and operational excellence. His expertise in data analysis, product management, leading high performing teams and M&A activity, comes at a crucial time as we continue our rapid national expansion and solidify our position as Australia's premier challenger in the telecommunications market."

The acquisition of Moose Mobile has been considered a significant milestone for Swoop, adding over 94,000 users to Swoop's portfolio at the time. The subscriber base has since grown to more than 130,000, indicating successful integration and expansion.

In his new capacity as Head of Moose Mobile, Mr Diaz will focus on automating processes and utilising the latest technology to further enhance customer experience. His objectives will span enhancing Average Revenue per User (ARPU), improving EBITDA, and delivering outstanding customer service over the upcoming three years.

Discussing his new role, Mr Diaz remarked, "I am incredibly excited to join Swoop at such a transformative moment for the company. This role presents a unique opportunity to leverage my extensive experience in telecommunications to drive innovation within the Moose Mobile division." His commitment to building a high-performing team and streamlining operations aligns with his goals of driving substantial financial growth and enhancing the customer experience.

Swoop has aimed for continued national growth since listing in May 2021, completing nine acquisitions, with Moose Mobile being a pivotal addition. The company has focused on expanding its fixed wireless infrastructure nationwide, enhancing its service offerings, and strengthening its presence within regional markets.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, Swoop reported a revenue of AUD $88.9 million, marking a 14% increase on the previous financial year. The company's subscriber base grew by 18%, reaching 179,092 by June 2024, predominantly through organic means. Despite operational expenses being streamlined to 21% of revenue, Swoop's EBITDA remained strong at AUD $16.4 million, reflecting a 6.4% year-on-year increase for its core business.

The company has also seen progress on its infrastructure projects, including the initiation of a 300-kilometre-owned fibre network set to cover a significant number of businesses and homes, supported by a USD $36 million contract with a major Nasdaq-listed technology firm.
