Turnitin Clarity to empower educators with AI insights

Turnitin has announced a new tool named Turnitin Clarity, intended to enhance transparency and integrity insights for students and educators.

Turnitin Clarity is an extension of Turnitin Feedback Studio and offers a unified platform designed to foster responsible use of AI in education. The tool is aimed at providing students with AI-generated feedback to inform their writing process, thus enabling them to demonstrate their learning effectively.

The tool allows educators to monitor writing activity, enabling a fair assessment of students' work. Through Turnitin Clarity, educators can establish guidelines for AI usage, helping students understand and leverage AI responsibly.

Administrators can also benefit from the transparency and data Turnitin Clarity offers, supporting institutional policies on academic integrity and AI usage.

"Turnitin Clarity serves as a bridge between students and educators," said Turnitin's Chief Product Officer Annie Chechitelli. "Students will need to use AI in their future careers. With Turnitin Clarity, educators can begin to understand how students use it and identify ways to incorporate it into their writing, without hindering their academic progress."

Turnitin Clarity provides a workspace within existing Turnitin workflows, where students can write and edit assignments. They can view assignment instructions, rubric, and track their progress until submission, enhancing their confidence.

For students, the optional AI writing assistant, when activated by an educator, offers a guided tool to integrate AI into the learning process ethically and responsibly. The feature allows educators to review the writing process comprehensively, understanding how students compose their assignments.

Educators can access students' writing histories through video playback, reporting on various aspects of the writing process. Insights include identification patterns from drafting activities, offering educators a clearer picture of students' adherence to integrity standards.

All integrity insights are integrated within Turnitin Feedback Studio, streamlining access for educators and facilitating quicker assessments of student work originality. Insights can be directly accessed from Turnitin Clarity upon assignment submission, expediting constructive dialogue between students and educators.

"Turnitin Clarity helps ensure more fair and equitable grading by leveling the playing field," added Chechitelli. Students can compose and turn in their work with confidence."

Turnitin Clarity will be available as a paid add-on to Turnitin Feedback Studio customers from the third quarter of 2025.
