Vertica launches new analytics SaaS offering on AWS
Thu, 7th Oct 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Vertica has announced the general availability of its new unified software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering, Vertica Accelerator.

The new offering is designed to deliver high-performance and scalable analytics, as well as end-to-end, in-database machine learning.

It's targeted towards organisations that require resourcing, management and control for each analytical use case, and is built on the new Vertica 11 Unified Analytics Platform.

Vertica Accelerator runs on AWS public cloud infrastructure in a customer's own AWS account, providing the ability to preserve negotiated pricing and committed spend while automating the setup and management of the Vertica environment, the company states.

Vertica states it includes core functionality, from advanced analytical functions such as time series, pattern matching, geospatial, and in-database end-to-end machine learning, with the performance and scale.

According to the company, highlights and benefits of Vertica Accelerator include:

Analytics that scales: As data and analysis needs grow, more users, more use cases, more data, Vertica Accelerator is designed to grow too.

Faster analysis: Users can finish queries in seconds or minutes, not hours, Vertica states, so businesses can find success with difficult analytics use cases.

Easy administration: All upgrades, backups, and installation are handled via the Vertica management plane – designed, built, and maintained by Vertica experts.

Availability Zone (AZ) failover and automatic node recovery: Users can spend more time getting value from data and less time with administration as teams scale to more use cases and higher data volumes with fewer resources, Vertica states.

Autoscaling and auto scheduling: Users can ramp up compute automatically, but utilise user-defined guardrails to avoid high surprise bills.

Data democratisation: The offering ensures database access for all analysts and data scientists, without worry of other workloads slowing down.

No extra charges: Businesses can move from traditional BI to advanced analytics such as geospatial, time series, or machine learning without paying extra.

Freedom to negotiate: Negotiated discounts, savings plans, and reserved instances set up on a secure AWS account remain available.

Onboarding service with Vertica experts: Vertica experts provide users with personalised onboarding, including cross-account linking and ongoing monitoring and upgrades.

Vertica, Micro Focus GM and SVP Colin Mahony says, “In a race to becoming more data-driven, companies are adopting cloud-based managed services to run their analytics, but they are shocked by the lack of control and skyrocketing bills.

"Vertica Accelerator delivers the fastest analytics as a service to organisations with complete control- customers leverage their own negotiated pricing with AWS and get to determine their performance levels based on their needs while also leveraging Vertica's built-in auto-scaling to avoid bill shock."

McKnight Consulting Group president William McKnight says, “Not all data warehouse-as-a-service offerings are created equal and it's important to do your research to be aware of those that have unpredictable pricing, hardware mark-up, and ease-of-use tradeoffs for giving up control that results in surprisingly high bills.

"Vertica Accelerator runs in a customer-provisioned cloud account, so that all data and compute resources are on your cloud account. Vertica experts can directly communicate with your database, providing tuning, monitoring, and upgrades. And you keep control over data and can fully apply a security and compliance model.
