WiseTech widens access to Evergreen eBills of Lading

WiseTech Global has made Evergreen Line's electronic Bills of Lading available through its Bolero Galileo platform, extending Evergreen's existing digital document reach to users across WiseTech's connected trade network.

Under the arrangement, shippers, freight forwarders, consignees, logistics providers and financial institutions using Galileo, CargoWise and INTTRA can request and access Evergreen eBLs within their existing workflows. The documents are used to exchange, manage and control shipment records and related trade finance paperwork as cargo moves through the supply chain.

Electronic Bills of Lading are digital versions of one of shipping's core documents, traditionally used to confirm receipt of cargo and transfer control of goods. Their wider adoption has become a focus for container lines, freight operators and banks seeking to cut paper handling, reduce delays and improve document visibility across international trade.

Evergreen has used Bolero technology for more than seven years through its Intelligent Bills of Lading offering within its own customer network. The latest expansion allows those documents to move beyond that closed environment into a broader network of trade participants connected through WiseTech systems.

Galileo is a digital platform that links logistics and trade participants so they can exchange and manage eBLs and associated trade finance documents. This supports cargo release and trade finance settlement by keeping verified documentation aligned with the physical movement of shipments.

Standards push

The integration is based on the Digital Container Shipping Association's API v3.0 standards, reflecting an industry-wide push towards common data formats for electronic shipping documents. Standardisation has been a persistent challenge in the shift from paper Bills of Lading to digital alternatives, particularly when multiple carriers, intermediaries and banks are involved in the same transaction.

By adopting the DCSA framework, Evergreen is positioning its eBL process to work across a wider range of systems and trading relationships. For customers, that can mean faster document transfer and less manual administration, particularly when shipping documents need to be reviewed by several parties before goods are released.

The change also broadens the role of WiseTech's network in document exchange. The combined ecosystem of CargoWise, INTTRA and Galileo users links a large community of freight forwarders, shippers, consignees, logistics providers and financial institutions.

That matters because adoption of electronic documents in shipping has often been held back by fragmented participation. A carrier may issue eBLs, but their practical value increases when forwarding agents, cargo owners and banks can all receive and act on the same digital record without switching to separate systems.

Trade finance link

The inclusion of related trade finance documents is another notable feature of the arrangement. Bills of Lading often sit at the centre of financing transactions in global trade, where lenders require documentary proof tied to cargo movements before releasing funds or completing settlement.

As a result, document timing can affect not only cargo release but also cash flow between exporters, importers and their banks. Across the industry, digital exchange has been promoted as a way to reduce delays caused by couriered paper documents and manual checks.

For Evergreen, the latest move adds to a broader shift among container lines towards more interoperable digital documentation. The company operates a container fleet with a combined capacity of more than 1.5 million TEU and maintains services across major trade lanes worldwide, meaning changes to its documentation processes could affect a large number of counterparties.

WiseTech, which develops software for logistics and trade, said its network now spans more than 500,000 connected enterprises following its acquisition of e2open. That scale forms part of the commercial case for bringing carriers' electronic documentation onto shared platforms rather than limiting access to proprietary customer portals.
