Workday has completed its acquisition of Sana, a company focused on artificial intelligence and enterprise knowledge tools. This deal brings together Workday's data and workflow platform with Sana's AI-driven knowledge and learning systems.
Integration plans
Workday plans to use Sana's technology to create a single interface for employees to interact with organisational systems, data, and actions. The company aims for this integration to simplify how enterprise users access knowledge and complete tasks, removing the need to switch between different software platforms.
"By bringing Sana's leading enterprise knowledge and learning to Workday, we're creating a single, intelligent interface that connects the systems, data, and actions employees rely on - becoming the new front door for work," said Gerrit Kazmier, President, Product and Technology, Workday. "We're unlocking a new era of productivity, focus, and flow across our customers' organizations with a complete AI solution for the next-generation enterprise."
AI-native experience
Sana's platform includes AI agents that automate workflows, analyse company data, and proactively support employee needs. The technology features a no-code agent builder, which allows users to create and deploy AI models grounded in organisational data. The combined solution will provide personalised experiences, adjusting content and recommendations based on an employee's role and projects.
The integration supports Workday's vision of a horizontal intelligence layer across businesses. This layer will aggregate workflow and data from various enterprise applications, giving users a unified, AI-powered workplace experience.
Learning systems
Sana Learn, the company's learning platform, delivers analytics, content generation, and tailored tutoring. Sana Learn will be positioned alongside Workday Learning, which is known for its learning management, analytics, compliance, and governance. The aim is to create a comprehensive suite that supports content creation, personalised skill development, and compliance requirements for large organisations.
Workday states that Sana Learn draws on a data set informed by over 75 million users and more than a trillion annual transactions, reflecting the reach of Workday's HR and finance platform. This approach intends to provide faster access to trusted knowledge for enterprise customers.
Work automation
Sana Agents, another part of the offering, is designed to help users build and deploy automations for repetitive tasks and knowledge workflows without programming expertise. The integration fits with Workday's broader AI strategy of enabling employees to automate routine work and build AI competencies.
Recent research conducted by Workday highlights opportunities and challenges around enterprise AI adoption. The company's AI Skills Revolution report indicated that 83% of executives believe AI can enhance human creativity, but issues with confidence and skill gaps persist. The combined platforms are intended to address these gaps through personalised learning and automation tools.
Product availability
Sana Learn and Sana Agents will be made available by Workday to its customers, complementing existing product offerings. Sana Learn will support rapid content creation and personalised training at scale. Sana Agents will allow employees to find and automate tasks across enterprise systems.
Strategic direction
Workday's acquisition of Sana follows other recent moves by the company to expand its AI offerings. These have included Illuminate Agents for HR and Finance, the Workday Data Cloud, and a flexible AI consumption model, all intended to serve large-scale enterprise requirements.
"Sana exists to build the UI for AI and bring superintelligence to work," said Joel Hellermark, CEO, Sana. "Joining Workday means we can drastically accelerate our vision and together create a seamless way for organizations to access knowledge, automate repetitive work, and learn with agentic AI."
