Adobe unveils new GPU-powered tools with NVIDIA RTX GPUs

Thu, 17th Oct 2024

Adobe has unveiled a suite of new GPU-accelerated technologies, with a focus on enhancing creativity and efficiency for video and 3D content creators, powered by NVIDIA's RTX GPUs.

Adobe's announcement introduces several tools designed to optimise and elevate creative workflows across its Adobe Creative Cloud products, including the popular Premiere Pro and After Effects applications, along with the Substance 3D suite. These developments aim to leverage the capabilities of NVIDIA's RTX GPUs to enhance processing power and efficiency in creative processes.

Among the new technologies is a feature for Adobe Premiere Pro, currently in beta, named Generative Extend. This tool, running on AI trained with licensed content, allows video editors to add frames to video clips seamlessly. This capability aids editors in expanding existing footage or generating inspirational sample clips without necessitating additional filming. The tool is powered by Adobe Firefly Video Model, designed to be commercially secure, thus providing confidence to artists during its use.

Topaz Labs has also developed an AI plug-in for Adobe After Effects, a software predominantly used for video enhancement. This plug-in utilises AI models to significantly improve video quality and runs nearly 2.5 times faster on the GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU compared to the MacBook Pro M3 Max. Additionally, After Effects features an RTX GPU-powered Advanced 3D Renderer which enhances content realism by speeding up the time-consuming application of HDRI lighting by approximately 30% using a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU compared to its predecessor.

Adobe has also extended its GPU-accelerated features to its Substance 3D suite. New features such as Text to Texture, Text to Pattern, and Generative Background, integrated via Adobe Firefly, enable artists to rapidly produce reference images from simple prompts. Improvements in the Substance 3D Collection facilitate a connected workflow with Adobe Photoshop, allowing for seamless model editing and rendering up to 80% faster on the GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU compared to the MacBook M3 Pro. These advancements are expected to revolutionise the ideation stage in 3D content creation.

Accompanying these product advancements is the release of NVIDIA's October Studio Driver, crafted to optimise performance in creative applications, available for download to enhance the functionality of these new Adobe tools.

Maximising the capabilities of NVIDIA's RTX GPUs, these tools are poised to provide a smoother user experience, fostering enhanced performance and efficiency across Adobe's suite of creative products. Adobe and NVIDIA continue to collaborate, aiming to transform creative possibilities through technological innovation, offering artists and designers the tools needed to push the boundaries of digital content creation.
