CAST unveils new version of its software imaging system, CAST Imaging
Mon, 13th Nov 2023

CAST, a software intelligence organisation, has unveiled a new version of CAST Imaging, the first software imaging system. This includes a suite of Advisors designed to offer bespoke recommendations to assist businesses in speeding up and mitigating risks associated with application modernisation and cloud migration.

These Advisors act as guiding beacons for software architects and developers as they take on significant transformations within their applications. The aim is to help simplify the process of refactoring Mainframe applications for AWS, re-platforming Oracle databases to Oracle Cloud, or migrating SQL Server and DB2 instances to PostgreSQL through the provision of personalised recommendations and actionable steps.

Luc Perard, Vice President of CAST Imaging, explained that CAST Imaging has the capability to automatically comprehend the functionality of the software. It visually maps the intricate web of tens of thousands of code elements and their interconnections, creating a dynamic knowledge base of the software internals. This, in turn, facilitates architects and developers in swiftly locating the specific information they need.

Luc Perard shared: "CAST Imaging automatically understands how software works, visually mapping the tens of thousands of code elements and all their relationships into a living knowledge base of the software internals. This enables architects and developers to quickly find what they require."

The most recent release also includes improvements to the CAST Imaging Explain with AI feature. This feature offers users plain-English explanations of any code or data element's function in the overall system context. Users can also choose between OpenAI or Azure OpenAI services for AI assistance.

CAST Imaging assists organisations of all sizes and industries in managing the complexity of their bespoke software solutions. Serving as a technical knowledge reservoir about an application's inner operations, it enhances development teams' efficiency and accelerates application modernisation.

The latest release introduces new and enhanced features, such as Advisors for modernisation and migration, which actively guide users in planning and implementing significant changes to their applications.

Other features include "How can I help you?", a tool that aids users in finding valuable information quickly and efficiently whilst displaying the application insights valuable to their current activity, and multi-tab navigation, which allows users to switch effortlessly between multiple application views as they peruse the application knowledge base.

The improved Fast Scan offers more actionable results, presented in a simpler-to-read format. Moreover, Explain that ChatGPT can now be set up to function via either ChatGPT by OpenAI or Azure OpenAI.

CAST provides software that 'understands' multi-technology software systems and automatically derives insights about their inner workings–interactions between all its elements, transaction flows, data access paths, changes needed to move to the cloud, open-source risks, green impact, ISO 5055 compliance and more.

The intelligent software provider is used globally by thousands of digital leaders, helping them make smarter decisions, maintain and transform custom software with incredible speed, and exert better ongoing control of the risks involved.
