Dell & Red Hat enhance apex cloud platform for OpenShift
Dell Technologies has announced new features for the Dell APEX Cloud Platform for Red Hat OpenShift, aiming to help organisations streamline their IT operations.
These updates highlight the integration of modern virtualisation and AI/ML workload management, as well as expanded infrastructure flexibility and consistency in the Red Hat OpenShift environment.
The partnership between Dell Technologies and Red Hat focuses on providing a unified platform for managing virtual machines, containers, and AI/ML workloads. This integration simplifies operations by allowing organisations to run and deploy all their workloads on a single platform. The updated APEX Cloud Platform now includes Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation by default, consolidating new and existing virtual machine workloads with other system demands.
The infrastructure flexibility of the APEX Cloud Platform has been enhanced to better accommodate various performance requirements and workload demands. The platform now includes additional block storage options from PowerFlex to PowerStore and Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation, providing customers with more choices regarding their storage needs.
This is particularly beneficial for those who require file and object support for AI workloads, which can now be managed using PowerScale and ObjectScale solutions.
The integration of Intel 5th Generation Xeon Processors and various NVIDIA GPUs further boosts the platform's performance capabilities for demanding applications. This updated hardware support ensures that the APEX Cloud Platform can handle the most intensive workloads, enhancing overall productivity and performance.
Consistency within the Red Hat OpenShift estate is another key improvement brought by this update. The APEX Cloud Platform now supports Red Hat OpenShift versions 4.14 and 4.16, ensuring a uniform environment across different setups. This includes added benefits like CPU hot plug and the ability to select specific nodes for live migration, making OpenShift Virtualisation more efficient and reducing the complexity of managing multiple software versions.
Dell Technologies and Red Hat have established themselves as leaders in their respective fields, with rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure reliability. According to the company, before each release, Dell conducts over 13,000 hours of infrastructure interoperability testing to provide customers with dependable solutions. The APEX Cloud Foundation Software ensures that the infrastructure remains in a continually validated state, offering consistent workload performance.
Companies are increasingly seeking simplified IT operations to reduce inefficiencies, minimise downtime, and lower operational costs.
Complex systems often lead to increased challenges for IT teams, who need solutions that are both powerful and easy to manage.
