Dell unveils enhanced PowerEdge servers with Intel Xeon cores
Dell has unveiled an expansion to its top-selling server portfolio, introducing performance enhancements and efficiency upgrades for the Dell PowerEdge. The expanded array aims to serve large-scale customers, cloud service providers (CSPs), and small businesses alike.
Key features of this expansion will include new Dell PowerEdge R670 and R770 CSP Edition servers, which introduce increased performance and a standardised server architecture for simplified deployment and serviceability. The CSP Edition servers are set to lead the market with the introduction of the Intel Xeon 6 Efficient Core processor. In addition to this, the new Dell PowerEdge T160 and R260 servers offer double the performance in a smaller footprint.
The new server offerings under Dell PowerEdge have been designed to offer versatility across industries. Catering to varying sizes of businesses and diverse computing needs, these new servers come with efficient configurations and improved performance, simplifying operations and offering the computational power to support a range of workloads.
"Our customers are turning to our newest servers to run more compute-intensive workloads while trying to manage power and emissions," explained Travis Vigil, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure Solutions Group Product Management at Dell Technologies. He expressed how Dell's 30 years of experience has allowed them to adapt to changing business needs, offering support across edge, core data centres, and the cloud.
The new Dell PowerEdge R670 and R770 CSP Edition servers are poised to provide cloud service providers with optimum performance for high-performance computing, including handling high-density and scale-out cloud workloads such as virtualisation and data analytics. Through the Dell Early Access Program, customers can evaluate these new server designs, enabling CSPs to scale production from day one of availability.
Powered by an Intel Xeon 6 Efficient core processor, customers will see a performance increase of up to 2.3x per rack compared to the previous generation. The servers also incorporate Dell Open Server Manager to streamline management in large, diverse environments.
Ryan Tabrah, Vice President & General Manager of Intel Xeon Efficient-core Products at Intel Corporation, appreciated Dell Technologies' involvement in developing the newest Intel Xeon 6 processor generation, which will enable customers to deliver high-density, efficient computing for AI data centres of the future.
The Dell PowerEdge T160 and R260 servers offer compact computing to small businesses and remote offices seeking powerful, dense configurations. Despite a reduced physical footprint, these servers offer double the performance compared to the previous generation. Equipped with filter bezels, these servers are shielded from dust and grease particles, ensuring optimal performance and acoustics.
Regarding their sustainability efforts, Kuba Stolarski, Research Vice President at IDC Enterprise Infrastructure Practice, commented, "Technology that maximises energy efficiency and infrastructure density without compromising performance is critical for modern sustainable datacentre operations."
The Dell PowerEdge R670 and R770 CSP Edition and the Dell PowerEdge T160 and R260 will be globally available soon. The R670 and R770 will be available to qualified Cloud Service Providers in July, and the other servers will be available in May.
