Devart has released dbForge 2026.2, adding a built-in PostgreSQL debugger and a free edition of its AI Assistant.

The update introduces new PostgreSQL development tools and expands access to AI features across the company's database software.

The release centres on dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL, which now includes an embedded debugger for server-side code. Developers can set breakpoints, step through code line by line, and monitor variables, expressions and query results as the code runs.

When an exception occurs, the debugger highlights the line that caused it. According to Devart, the feature is integrated into dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL and requires no separate extensions or manual configuration.

PostgreSQL tools

Devart has also added visual editors for PostgreSQL event triggers, functions and procedures, allowing teams to create and modify those objects through an interface instead of writing SQL directly.

The update reflects a broader push towards tools for database teams that maintain server-side PostgreSQL code. It is aimed at developers, architects and analysts, with particular emphasis on PostgreSQL workflows.

"Finding a problem in PostgreSQL code shouldn't mean reading through it line by line and guessing," said Oleksii Honcharov, Head of Engineering at Devart. "Developers should be able to pause execution, watch the data change and see the exact line where something breaks, without installing extensions or configuring anything first. Functions, procedures and event triggers deserve the same treatment: teams should be able to build them visually, not only in raw code. dbForge 2026.2 puts all of that inside dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL."

AI changes

Alongside the PostgreSQL additions, Devart has expanded its AI Assistant. Users can now attach active SQL documents, scripts, application code, database projects, diagrams and custom instructions as context for prompts.

Teams can provide sample code so generated SQL follows internal coding standards. Users can also attach several databases to one chat or ask the assistant to compare two scripted databases.

Model support has also expanded. The assistant now supports Claude Haiku 4.5, Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Claude Sonnet 5 from Anthropic, as well as GPT-5.4 from OpenAI.

Devart has also launched a free Express edition of dbForge AI Assistant. It includes a limited token allowance and stores chat history for 14 days, while paid plans offer a larger token allowance and unlimited chat history.

"AI is most useful when it understands the context in which developers work," said Honcharov. "The latest improvements to dbForge AI Assistant give users more control over that context, from active documents and file attachments to saved instructions and model selection. Our goal is to make AI assistance more relevant and flexible across the database development workflow."

Wider update

The release also includes changes across the dbForge product line. New refactoring commands in dbForge SQL Complete and dbForge Studio for SQL Server, MySQL and Oracle can apply object and column name qualification and expand wildcards in existing SQL code.

Users can now launch test data generation directly from Database Explorer. Schema comparison documents and reports in dbForge tools for SQL Server and Oracle also now include a "Last modified" column.

Support for MySQL 26.7 and MariaDB 13.x has also been updated across Devart's MySQL tools.

According to Devart, more than 500,000 users work with its products, including 65% of Fortune 100 companies.
