Exclusive: EcoFlow Australia launches DELTA Pro 3, targeting off-grid power solutions
EcoFlow Australia has unveiled its latest innovation, the EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3, aiming to revolutionise off-grid living, backup power, and sustainable energy savings for households across the nation.
As a key player in sustainable and portable power solutions, EcoFlow has revealed the new DELTA Pro 3, offering a significant upgrade to its predecessor, the DELTA Pro.
Nick Osborne, Senior Business Development Manager at EcoFlow Australia, spoke with TechDay during an exclusive interview, where he discussed the product's capabilities and its potential to transform how Australians power their homes and businesses.
Osborne described EcoFlow as "total off-grid living," positioning the company as a global leader in portable power solutions. He explained, "When you talk about sustainable power solutions, EcoFlow is definitely number one in the world for that." EcoFlow has 4.5 million users worldwide.
Launch of DELTA Pro 3
The DELTA Pro 3 is set to supersede the highly successful DELTA Pro, offering even greater power and efficiency.
According to Osborne, the DELTA Pro 3 is a "four-kilowatt version, or 4000 watts and 4000 watt hours," which translates to around 333 amp hours. Its compact design and increased functionality are expected to make it an even bigger hit than the original.
Osborne shared that the new model is both bigger and sleeker, making it more convenient for users. "It's actually bigger in size and more sleek in design. For home backup, it's almost instant – around 10 milliseconds or so for power to kick in," he explained.
The new power station is also highly adaptable, with the ability to stack additional batteries. Osborne highlighted the flexibility this offers, particularly for space-conscious users: "It comes with 4000 watt hours, but you can add another 4000 watt hours, and then another. They stack on top of each other, sleek and neat."
Specific Australian Use Cases
The DELTA Pro 3 is particularly suited to the diverse and challenging energy needs of Australian households and businesses. While the original DELTA Pro has already proven its utility in similar use cases, the DELTA Pro 3 is set to take this a step further with even more advanced features and capabilities.
Osborne pointed out the utility of the DELTA Pro during Queensland's cyclone season, which left many without power last year. "We had a huge influx last Christmas in Queensland because of the cyclone that hit on the Gold Coast," he said. "People were using it for backup during blackouts."
Beyond disaster preparedness, the DELTA Pro 3 offers a sustainable solution for reducing energy bills. Osborne shared his personal experience using DELTA Pro: "I recharge it during off-peak times and then use it during peak periods for my microwave, coffee machine, and dryer. I've halved my bills just using this one device."
For Australians looking to go completely off-grid, adding extra batteries to the DELTA Pro 3 allows for more extended periods of energy independence.
Disaster Preparedness
In the lead-up to Australia's summer season, where power outages are a growing concern, the DELTA Pro 3 is seen as a superior alternative to traditional generators. Osborne gave a personal account of using the earlier DELTA Pro model to support his mother during a 10-day blackout caused by a cyclone. "I had my range of EcoFlow products under the house. With the DELTA Pro, I was able to power her fridge, freezer, and TV. The device kept us going for 10 days, recharging with solar panels in between," he explained.
The DELTA Pro 3 also addresses the noise and maintenance issues associated with conventional petrol generators. Unlike petrol-powered alternatives, it is silent, emission-free, and can be recharged using solar energy, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly option.
Savings and Installation
Osborne emphasised that the DELTA Pro 3's capabilities are not limited to emergency power.
The product can be integrated into everyday home power systems to reduce energy consumption during peak periods. "There's a little switch called an automatic override switch, which your electrician can install. This connects the DELTA Pro 3 to your home's power panel, allowing it to provide backup power automatically when needed," he explained.
This setup is ideal for Australians looking to lower their electricity bills and become less reliant on the grid. "You can tell the electrician to only power specific points, like the fridge and freezer, or maybe a few power points to cook something during a power outage," Osborne added.
EcoFlow's Expanding Product Range
In addition to the DELTA Pro 3, EcoFlow offers a wide range of products tailored to different needs.
The RIVER 2 series, for example, is popular among campers and tradespeople. These portable power units can charge mobile devices and small appliances like camping fridges. "Even the smallest RIVER 2 can run a 45-litre camping fridge for about six hours," Osborne said.
The larger DELTA series products, including the DELTA 2 and DELTA 2 Max, offer greater power capacity for those going off-grid for more extended periods.
Osborne highlighted that the DELTA 2 Max provides "half the power of the DELTA Pro 3" at a more affordable price point, making it an attractive option for consumers who need power for shorter trips or less demanding appliances.
Competitive Advantage
When asked why EcoFlow products stand out from the competition, Osborne pointed to several factors, including faster charging times and the company's commitment to innovation. "We've been around a long time. Over half of our 2,500 employees are engineers, constantly reinventing and making sure we have the latest in technology," he explained.
EcoFlow's dedication to creating reliable and cutting-edge solutions extends beyond power stations. The company also offers full home solutions, caravan setups, and even portable eskies that make ice in just 12 minutes, according to Osborne.
Market Demand
As Australia faces increasing climate-related power challenges, Osborne believes the demand for portable power solutions will continue to grow.
"If you're not out there getting a DELTA Pro 3 now, you're missing out. It's going to save you a lot of headaches," he stated, adding that portable power solutions like the DELTA Pro 3 are essential for anyone wanting to ensure they have a reliable power source in the face of future energy disruptions.
Pricing and Availability
EcoFlow's DELTA Pro 3 is available for purchase through EcoFlow Australia's website, as well as retailers like Anaconda, Harvey Norman, and Battery World.
The product is currently on sale for $4,099, down from its regular retail price of $6,699. This promotional price will run until the end of October, with the price set to return to normal on November 1.
Reflecting on the importance of reliable power solutions, Osborne concluded: "Everyone should take an interest in purchasing this product. Believe me, you can go totally off-grid with it. I've done it. I know it. I've seen it."
