GapMaps launches premium POI and demographic datasets on AWS

Thu, 2nd May 2024

GapMaps, a location intelligence specialist company with Australian origins, has officially launched its premium point of interest (POI) and demographics datasets on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Data Exchange platform. This significant evolution in the company's strategy provides consultants, developers and commercial property groups and brands access to GapMaps’ data products, enabling them to optimise network strategies across a wide range of industry sectors.

The integration with AWS Data Exchange allows for greater data accessibility, enabling AWS customers to conveniently develop more informed location strategies globally. These premium datasets provide accurate, comprehensive demographics and POI data, which companies can effortlessly merge with their data sets to improve location strategies.

Regions which will now benefit from this service include Australia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and North America. The beneficial merger has implications for various industries and sectors including Quick Service Restaurant (QSR), Fast Food, Cafes, Fitness, Supermarket & Grocery.

"In today's digital world, customers expect easy methods to procure their chosen data products and the integration with AWS Data Exchange offers a seamless process to broaden the accessibility of our premium data sets to AWS customers," said Anthony Villanti, GapMaps' Managing Director and Founder. He highlighted the value of the newly accessible, granular demographics and POI data sets, particularly in regions across Asia, India and the Middle East where such data has often been limited due to various factors.

Various packages of demographics datasets will be available through the AWS Data Exchange including details on resident population size, age profile, education status and occupation. GapMaps' approach utilises detailed insights into consuming class distribution at 150 metre grid levels. This adds immense value, particularly in regions where demographics data is often limited to state level, leaving gaps in understanding of specific neighbourhoods or suburbs. Villanti added, "GapMaps uniquely provides this service at a detailed level, a factor that shows a noteworthy correlation with store performance for the majority of brands we work with."

Premium packages will also be available for certain regions including India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Malaysia. These include additional datasets such as consumption class data, worker population data and retail spend estimates in categories like food & beverage, supermarket/grocery. This offers businesses insightful understanding of household spending patterns in certain catchment areas which feeds into their location strategy.

The integration will also see the inclusion of third-party data from Applied Geographic Solutions, a leading supplier of high-quality demographic datasets in North America. In addition to this, GapMaps offers point of interest datasets that monitor leading sector competitors with updates on store openings and closures, aiding businesses in keeping track of rival activity within specific areas. Villanti explained that this data "helps them quickly prioritise which markets to enter and where to locate stores using high quality and granular data."

The significant improvement in accessibility to this in-depth data and insights will provide businesses with extensive, granular data, enabling them to make more informed decisions about expansion and location strategies, ultimately influencing their potential for growth and success.
