Geotab has launched Geotab Investigations for fleet operators across Asia Pacific to support road incident reviews.

The system brings telematics data and time-aligned records of vehicle and driver behaviour into a single platform for safety, compliance and operations teams. It is designed to help fleets investigate collisions, property damage, safety violations and complaints from customers or members of the public.

Fleet investigations often involve several internal and external parties, including operations teams, safety managers, insurers and legal advisers. In many cases, the work is still handled manually across different systems, slowing reviews and making it harder to maintain a clear record of events.

Incident records

The new product is intended to reduce that fragmentation by collecting incident-related information in one place. Users can search for vehicle activity linked to a specific time and location, reconstruct a timeline of events, and attach supporting material such as reports, notes, emails, photos and video.

It also includes a structured case workflow, allowing teams to move an incident through stages from open to closed. Geotab said this creates an auditable process for internal reviews, insurance claims and compliance checks.

The issue is growing in importance for fleet operators as safety and compliance requirements become more complex and the volume of connected vehicle data increases. Telematics systems can record details such as trips, speed events, locations and aspects of driver behaviour, but those records are often stored separately from other evidence gathered after an incident.

Centralised evidence

That separation can create practical problems when a fleet needs to understand what happened quickly, particularly if a complaint, claim or disciplinary process is involved. A centralised view of incident data can also affect how businesses assess liability and support drivers involved in an event.

Geotab said the product uses a fleet's existing telematics data to create a single operational record around an incident. The approach can reduce manual work while giving stakeholders a more consistent basis for decisions.

The launch also reflects broader pressure on transport and service fleets to demonstrate stronger governance around safety events. Businesses that operate large vehicle networks face scrutiny not only from regulators and insurers, but also from customers and the public when incidents occur.

Safety governance

Accurately reconstructing an event can be important in deciding whether a driver followed procedure, whether a complaint is justified, and whether external factors contributed to a collision or breach. In some cases, reliable records may help prevent drivers from being wrongly blamed for incidents.

Geotab is one of the larger suppliers in the connected vehicle and fleet management market. It said it works with more than 100,000 customers and connects about 6 million vehicles and assets, while processing 100 billion data points each day.

The scale of those data flows highlights the commercial opportunity for software that can turn raw operational information into a usable case file for managers and investigators. It also shows how fleet technology suppliers are moving beyond vehicle tracking into products more closely tied to risk management, compliance and post-incident review.

Regional demand

David Brown, Associate Vice President, Sales, APAC, outlined the company's view of regional demand for such tools. "Across Asia Pacific, fleets are managing increasingly complex safety, compliance and operational requirements, making it critical to have accurate information available when an incident occurs. Geotab Investigations brings critical data together in one place, giving fleet managers a clearer picture of what happened and the insights they need to resolve incidents faster, support their drivers and make informed decisions," said David Brown, Associate Vice President, Sales, APAC, Geotab.
