Grundfos unveils smart pump controller for bore water

Fri, 23rd Jan 2026

Grundfos has launched its CU 302 smart controller in Australia, adding remote monitoring and wireless connectivity for residential groundwater pumping systems.

The controller targets 3-inch and 4-inch SQE submersible pumps used in bore and groundwater installations. Grundfos said the product maintains constant water pressure and adjusts pump speed as demand changes.

Groundwater supplies account for around 30% of Australia's total water use, according to figures cited by the company. Rural and regional households often rely on bore water systems, particularly in areas with limited access to reticulated supply.

Wireless monitoring

Grundfos said the CU 302 includes Bluetooth and WiFi as standard. The company said users can monitor and control systems through three platforms: Grundfos GO, Grundfos Home and Grundfos Connect.

Grundfos positions Grundfos GO as a tool for installers and service professionals. The company said the app supports setup, commissioning and access to operational data. Grundfos Home targets household users, with remote notifications and performance information.

Grundfos Connect is a web-based service for remote monitoring and control. Grundfos said the service provides real-time information on equipment status and performance.

The company linked remote monitoring with fewer physical visits to remote sites. It said remote monitoring has reduced unnecessary site visits by up to 40% in cases it referenced. Installers in Australia often cover large regional territories, where travel time and costs can rise quickly.

Pressure management

Grundfos said the CU 302 manages pump speed automatically in order to maintain constant pressure. The company said this approach reduces fluctuations compared with fixed on/off pressure systems.

The company also said the controller allows for the use of a smaller pressure tank than some traditional systems. It linked pump speed control with reduced wear and lower energy consumption.

Grundfos referenced customer dissatisfaction with water pressure as a market issue. It said approximately 20% of water customers report dissatisfaction with water pressure, without giving a source in its announcement.

Replacement focus

Grundfos said the CU 302 shares identical dimensions with its predecessor. The company said this makes replacement in existing installations simpler and faster.

The launch comes as households, small agricultural operations and rural businesses invest in equipment upgrades for bore systems. In many remote properties, pumping equipment forms part of broader water infrastructure that also includes storage tanks, filtration and on-site distribution.

Grundfos said the CU 302 aims at residential groundwater installations. The company did not disclose local pricing, distribution arrangements or sales expectations in its announcement.

"The CU 302 is more than a controller - it's the next step in intelligent water management for residential systems. With built-in connectivity, homeowners and professionals can monitor their water systems from their phones, keep pressure consistent, and address issues before they become costly breakdowns. It transforms water management from reactive fixes to proactive, reliable, and energy-efficient control," said Sam Ryder, Regional Managing Director Oceania, Grundfos.

Grundfos said the controller integrates with its existing pump range used in bore applications. The company said customers can combine the CU 302 with a Grundfos Connect subscription for remote oversight of pumping systems.

Grundfos said the CU 302 will roll out through its Australian channels for residential groundwater users and installers in regional markets.
