HammerTech launches AI tools to streamline construction safety admin

Fri, 11th Jul 2025

HammerTech has introduced HammerTech Intelligence, a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities designed to automate site safety administration and provide real-time insights for contractors.

The platform's new tools aim to ease administrative tasks on construction sites, which have traditionally relied on manual and time-consuming processes. Among the new features are smart image recognition that auto-fills key fields for safety observations, transcription of pre-task plan (PTP) meetings, and automatic extraction of safety data sheet (SDS) information, all designed to improve accuracy and free up site crews to focus on safety measures.

AI for site safety

AI adoption in the construction industry is increasing as firms seek more connected systems that can provide actionable insights and enable quicker, more informed safety decisions. HammerTech reports that its platform has been used in over 20,000 projects and has enrolled more than five million workers globally, positioning its safety data set as one of the largest in the sector.

The newly released HammerTech Intelligence is described as a foundation for evolving tools that improve visibility and provide site teams with structured documentation and data-driven support for their safety decisions. The platform's roll-out addresses common industry challenges such as excessive paperwork and incomplete documentation, both of which can lead to greater risks on-site.

Capabilities overview

The first wave of HammerTech Intelligence includes three primary features:

  • Pre-Task Plan Meeting Capture: Audio recordings of daily PTP meetings are uploaded, transcribed and analysed to identify key tasks, hazards, and controls, ensuring that all relevant details are documented efficiently.
  • Observation Photo Recognition: Photos attached to safety observations are analysed by the platform, which then suggests categories and descriptions to streamline reporting and improve consistency.
  • SDS Form Autofill: Safety data sheets uploaded by subcontractors are automatically processed to extract relevant information, minimising repetitive data entry and the risk of errors.

Ben Leach, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of HammerTech, explained the philosophy behind the development of HammerTech Intelligence, emphasising a focus on usability and efficiency rather than adopting technology for its own sake:

"We've always focused on solving real-world site safety challenges - never chasing gimmicks, flashy features, or adding complexity for the sake of it. In an industry where crews are under constant time pressures, we believe technology should always simplify, not complicate. HammerTech Intelligence reflects that belief. Each capability is practical, grounded in real workflows, and built to transform what's possible on site, cutting admin, improving visibility, and helping teams act faster with confidence."

Construction professionals have responded positively to the platform's enhanced functionality. Joshua Bullock, Safety Manager at Gray Construction, said, "HammerTech Intelligence is going to provide much-needed efficiency in our daily safety planning efforts, adding another valuable resource to our teams. HammerTech has been a trusted partner for years and this platform enhancement is really exciting."

Leach also commented on the broader implications of AI-driven site safety: "In recent years, the ideas of using safety data to empower better, earlier site safety decisions were a vision of where the industry could go. That future is already here. We've seen what happens when critical safety documents like PTPs or SDSs aren't properly filled out: limited visibility, mis-prioritised work, and added risk. Even when teams try to stay on top of it, they often end up buried in paperwork. HammerTech Intelligence eases that burden."

Integrating AI into daily operations

Andrew Barron, Chief Product Officer at HammerTech, emphasised the importance of integrating AI seamlessly into daily workflows. Barron stated, "We knew from the start that AI would only be useful if it felt effortless to use. So, we built HammerTech Intelligence as part of the core platform, not as an add-on or a separate tool. That way, thousands of workers on site get the benefit immediately, without needing to change the way they already work."

"This first release focuses on everyday workflows – think Pre-Task Plans, Observations, and SDS forms – where administrative overhead and missed details create unnecessary risk. By reducing that load, we're helping crews stay focused on what matters in the field. Over time, the opportunity is even bigger. When you pair smart models with structured, construction-specific data, you can start to surface patterns, flag blind spots early, and support better safety decisions across the whole project."

The preview of HammerTech Intelligence is set to become available to customers in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, reflecting the company's efforts to make AI-enabled site safety tools broadly accessible across key construction markets.
