NVIDIA expands Australian AI infrastructure with partners

NVIDIA has expanded its Australian AI infrastructure partnerships with Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk. The programme is intended to support up to a 2-gigawatt buildout by 2027.

The expansion focuses on adding land, power and data centre shell capacity at sites designed to host multiple generations of NVIDIA DSX systems. Participating providers will operate the facilities, while NVIDIA will supply the DSX platform, computing systems, networking, software and ecosystem support.

Demand for AI computing has risen as companies, researchers and public sector bodies seek more local access to large-scale infrastructure for training and deploying models. The broader buildout is intended to serve Australian startups, universities, researchers, developers, enterprises and AI-focused companies.

NVIDIA also tied the expansion to broader use of its Nemotron open models in Australia, saying greater local access to computing resources and models would help organisations develop regional applications and agents for domestic industries.

Partner buildout

Several participating groups also outlined separate projects under the wider programme. Firmus is extending its Project Southgate initiative, which is intended to support demand from hyperscale operators and AI-focused customers in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

“Project Southgate represents a tangible commitment to building Australia's AI future,” said Oliver Curtis, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Firmus.

“Together with NVIDIA, we are developing AI factories that will give Australian businesses, researchers and innovators access to world-class computing capacity at home, while positioning Australia to meet growing AI demand across Asia-Pacific,” Curtis said.

Sharon AI is deploying up to 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs linked with NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand and NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet networking. The infrastructure is intended to support startups, enterprises and research organisations.

“By building on NVIDIA's DSX platform, Sharon AI is equipped to bring gigawatt-scale AI factories to Australian enterprises, researchers, government and AI natives. With the trust and reliability needed to build, train and deploy AI at scale, Australia can turn its natural advantages into a genuine national AI capability,” Manning said.

IREN is combining NVIDIA's DSX architecture with its own operations across power, land, data centres and GPU deployment. It pointed to its 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia as part of that effort.

“Building AI infrastructure at scale requires integrating every layer: data centers, compute and software,” said Daniel Roberts, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of IREN.

“Combining IREN's vertically integrated platform with the NVIDIA DSX AI factory reference architecture provides a repeatable blueprint to bring capacity online at scale. We are applying that blueprint across our development portfolio, bringing IREN's proven international delivery and operating experience to our 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia,” Roberts said.

Megaport is widening access to NVIDIA computing through its subsidiary Latitude.sh to support inference workloads. Its network is intended to place processing closer to users.

ResetData is building Australian AI infrastructure for enterprise, government and research customers that require local data residency. CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk described data centre capacity and cooling systems aimed at supporting dense AI workloads.

CDC operates more than 550 megawatts of capacity across Australia and New Zealand, with another 800 megawatts under construction. Its facilities use renewable electricity and zero-water cooling systems certified for NVIDIA infrastructure.

“Our facilities use 100% renewable electricity and incorporate pioneering zero water advanced cooling technologies certified for NVIDIA accelerated computing infrastructure,” Boorer said.

Local users

NVIDIA highlighted Australian users including Heidi and Atlassian as examples of companies building on its model and infrastructure stack. Heidi is combining Nemotron models with its clinical knowledge base for healthcare applications, while Atlassian is using NVIDIA AI in work on semantic search for Rovo.

“NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Ultra gives us the flexibility to build and post-train models for the real complexity of healthcare,” said Yu Liu, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Heidi.

“Combining Nemotron with Heidi's clinical training and fine-tuning capabilities helps us reason across patient histories, clinical context and guidelines at scale, turning that information into actionable insights while preserving the trust and privacy patients expect,” Liu said.

Atlassian tied the infrastructure base to search and workflow tools inside its products, saying local growth in AI infrastructure would become more important as it expanded those systems.

As Australia's AI infrastructure continues to grow, it will play an increasingly important role in that journey, and we're excited to keep pushing the boundaries of what's possible together,” Cao said.

The Australian expansion comes as data centre operators and cloud providers race to secure power, land and cooling systems for AI workloads, with infrastructure emerging as a central constraint on growth in many markets. In Australia, the buildout also underscores the country's role as a regional base for AI computing, supported by energy availability, connectivity and existing data centre development.
