Global tech firm HCLTech is breaking new ground with the appointment of Sonia Eland as the company’s first female Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. Eland, previously the Technology Strategy and Transformation Partner at Deloitte, brings over 30 years of technology and consulting experience to her new role at HCLTech.

In her role as Country Manager, Eland will be vested with the responsibility of driving HCLTech's growth strategy in Australia and New Zealand, a market which demonstrates great potential and opportunity. Her role will come into effect from April 1, 2024, reporting directly to Swapan Johri, President, Growth Markets at HCLTech.

Eland’s experience spans a variety of sectors such as consulting, technology, banking, retail and travel. With past roles at international organisations such as DXC Technology, CSC, Fujitsu, Westpac and HSBC, her broad-based experience will undoubtedly imbue richness and depth to HCLTech's operations. She is an alumna of both Macquarie Business School and the University of Sydney.

Swapan Johri, President of Growth Markets, said, “We are delighted to welcome Sonia to HCLTech. I am confident that her rich experience adds immense value to our clients and our growth strategy in Australia and New Zealand. On behalf of everyone at HCLTech, I would like to thank Michael for his immense contribution in boosting the company’s growth in the region." Michael Horton, the previous Country Manager, will now move into a consultancy role within the organization.

The new appointment reflects HCLTech's commitment to supporting its clients in mastering the challenges and opportunities presented by advanced technologies. "With big data, AI, IoT, cloud and cyber security playing an increasingly significant role in our day-to-day lives, businesses need trusted partners with the experience, capability and creativity to harness the full power of digital and embed resiliency, optimisation and continuous innovation into their organisations," Eland commented on the digital landscape.

Building on the company's respected engineering and digital transformation background, Eland is eager to help HCLTech clients accelerate their progress. She will be based in Sydney, leading the continued growth and expansion of the global technology company, which has been operating in Australia and New Zealand for more than two decades.

This year, the company extended its partnerships with ANZ Bank, Cricket Australia, and agribusiness firm Elders. As a trusted digital technology services partner, HCLTech continues to focus on delivering industry-leading capabilities centred around digital, engineering, cloud and AI across diverse sectors, while also advancing reconciliation through its commitment to the implementation of the company’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
