Helia partners with Informatica to enhance data governance

Tue, 10th Sep 2024

Informatica has announced its selection by Helia, a prominent Australian lenders mortgage insurer, to implement its Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) platform with the aim of accelerating claims processing and enhancing data governance and management.

Helia, known for its role in assisting home buyers in overcoming the traditional 20% deposit hurdle, is focused on managing the financial risks for lenders. Rising living costs have heightened the challenge for prospective homeowners to save or meet mortgage repayments, positioning Helia as a crucial player in the industry.

Historically, the company has handled significant volumes of customer data, necessitating a sophisticated approach to data management and governance amidst evolving industry demands and increasing cyber threats.

The collaboration comes as Helia sought a scalable and adaptable data governance framework capable of linking multiple data sources and cloud systems across its operations. The goal was to achieve comprehensive data visibility and oversight, while enhancing security and mitigating compliance risks.

Informatica’s IDMC platform, powered by AI, alongside its Cloud Data Governance and Catalog (CDGC), was selected to meet these needs. This platform aims to provide AI-ready data, improving data trust, literacy, and privacy throughout Helia's operations. The implementation of this technology is expected to drive Helia’s digital transformation, enabling the company to explore innovative customer engagement methods, including intelligent chatbots and automated decision-making processes for claims.

Michelle Soakell-Ho, Helia's data governance leader, underscored the importance of this initiative. "By taking control of our data and implementing AI-powered data governance, we’re building a foundation to surpass our customers’ expectations and maximise value from AI," she stated. Soakell-Ho further emphasised the responsibility Helia holds as custodians of customer information, adding, "Customers and home buyers trust us to be the custodians of their information, and we needed an integrated platform that would allow us to take charge of our data and deliver on its true value."

Informatica’s Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Alex Newman, explained the benefits of the IDMC platform. "IDMC enables Helia to build a centralised inventory of its data, enhance its classification processes using our AI-powered platform capabilities for automating processes and enforcing policies to manage this information," said Newman.

He highlighted the platform's connectivity and its potential to integrate Helia’s diverse data landscape, thus improving the robustness and agility of their data management solutions.

Newman also noted, "This flexible cloud-based solution helps deliver a future-proof approach to data governance and allows Helia to take its data capability to the next level with a contextual 360-degree view of high-quality, consistent data and AI-powered insights."

Overall, the collaboration between Helia and Informatica represents a step forward in using advanced data management solutions to meet industry demands, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experience through the power of AI and data governance.
