FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kiwi telecommunications provider Telesmart has acquired NEC Business Solutions from Scollay Holdings.

Telesmart says the deal will strengthen its telecommunications engineering skills, and complement its existing network, voice and video solutions, which are delivered from its five centres in New Zealand and Australia.

Telesmart managing director Nigel Barker comments, “This is an exciting purchase for Telesmart because it firmly positions us as New Zealand's leading sales and service provider of NEC's world-leading telecommunications systems.

As a result of the acquisition, Glenn Van Gorp had been appointed as Telesmart's head of Engineering.

“Significantly, from a New Zealand perspective, it also reunites the unique team of Mark Simons and Mark Panther – renowned for their ability to qualify and deliver market-leading solutions, often to highly specialised requirements,” adds Barker.

“The acquisition builds on our ability to offer best-of-breed telecommunications solutions to New Zealand's most complex organisations. Our team are amongst the country's most experienced and knowledgeable experts.

Until the acquisition, NEC Business Solutions was a division of Scollay Holdings Limited and a New Zealand distributor of NEC products for 23 years.

The Japanese conglomerate is a globally ranked top-two provider of telecommunications systems, however, NEC Business Solutions is not owned either wholly or in part by the NEC Corporation of Japan.

Scollay Holdings owner Chris Scollay says Telesmart's customer-centric business philosophy displayed all the attributes he had wanted when he decided to sell the business.

“I'm delighted because I'm confident they have the right attributes to ensure NEC Business Solutions' legacy will live on.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
