Lenovo unveils ThinkSystem V4 to make AI more accessible

Tue, 11th Jun 2024

Lenovo has unveiled its new ThinkSystem V4 portfolio, which is engineered to make artificial intelligence (AI) more accessible to businesses of all sizes. Powered by Intel Xeon 6 processors, the updated portfolio aims to cater to the diverse workload requirements of various enterprises.

The portfolio includes an array of AI-enabled solutions designed to facilitate seamless integration of AI into business workflows. These solutions aim not only to enhance operational decision-making and management efficiency but also to boost productivity while maintaining robust security measures.

“Lenovo and Intel have a long history of innovation, transforming data centres with hybrid cloud and edge technologies,” said Sumir Bhatia, President of Lenovo ISG AP. “We’re excited to launch the Lenovo ThinkSystem V4 with Intel, designed to make AI accessible, equitable, and inclusive at every stage of development and application. This next-gen infrastructure embodies our vision of 'Smarter AI for All,' offering unmatched performance and accessibility to help businesses leverage hybrid AI infrastructure and maximise data value.”

Additionally, new AI-powered Lenovo Systems Management solutions now employ generative AI to simplify and automate deployment and configuration across increasingly distributed computing networks. The entire ThinkSystem V4 portfolio supports enterprise-specific data, assisting in informed decision-making and enhanced efficiency.

"CIOs in ANZ are most confident about AI, with 83% expressing certainty that it will create a competitive advantage, and 38% of them consider it to be a game changer for their organisations.," stated Kumar Mitra, Managing Director and Regional General Manager, CAP & ANZ, Lenovo ISG. "As CAP businesses scale AI, Lenovo leads with our ThinkSystem V4 portfolio, offering unparalleled rack density and storage. Combined with our Neptune Liquid-cooling technology, we set a new standard with superior performance, enhanced processing power, and reduced energy consumption."

The ThinkSystem V4 portfolio features AI-powered management capabilities, with the new ThinkSystem servers optimised for rack density and immense transactional data, aimed at maximising processing performance in data centres for enterprises, cloud service providers (CSPs), high-performance computing, and telecom companies. Lenovo's engineering, coupled with Intel Xeon processors, delivers over four times more cores per rack and an increased performance of 4.3 times.

The Lenovo ThinkSystem SD520 V4 server boasts extreme rack density and efficiency, offering up to 225% more cores in a 2U chassis and up to 3.18 times more web transaction throughput. This makes it suitable for compute-intensive transactional workloads, such as online banking, e-retail, and CSPs. Moreover, the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR630 V4 redefines power for cloud-scale, Telco 5G Core, and e-commerce workloads, enhancing performance per rack with up to 42% faster media transcoding.

As AI continues to evolve, Lenovo’s infrastructure is designed to enable customers to focus on innovation securely. Lenovo ThinkSystem servers have maintained the top spot for x86 security by ITIC for five consecutive years. These servers are fortified against sophisticated security threats and support high levels of business continuity, including compliance with NIST SP800-193 Platform Firmware Resiliency (PFR).

Furthermore, Lenovo has extended its Neptune liquid-cooling technology, which has been a leader in energy-efficient computing for over a decade. This innovation helps meet AI's high-performance demands while reducing power consumption by up to 40%. The ThinkSystem V4 portfolio incorporates Neptune’s liquid-cooling to lower power consumption across various types of servers, making it feasible for businesses of all sizes to achieve the computing power needed for AI advancement.

Lenovo's AI-enabled portfolio, the most comprehensive in the industry, spans from edge to cloud, containing the ideal combination of GPUs, CPUs, software, and support. With the inclusion of Intel Xeon 6 processors, AI has become accessible at almost every level, delivering efficient and fast processing for demanding workloads without requiring discrete accelerators.

To further assist businesses in adopting AI, Lenovo has introduced AI Advisory and Professional Services, offering a variety of services, solutions, and platforms designed to help companies implement AI swiftly, cost-effectively, and at scale.

In addition, Lenovo’s new AIOps Systems Management, using generative AI, simplifies the deployment and management of hybrid intelligent infrastructure. The XClarity One powered with AI3 AIOps offers predictive failure analytics, proactive issue resolution, and smarter support, aiming to reduce system downtime and optimise performance.
