Logitech Australia has launched the limited-edition MX Master 4 Developer Edition mouse, a special version of its flagship MX Master 4 aimed at software developers.

The release is the first developer-themed edition in Logitech's MX Master line. It will be sold through Logitech's website and selected global retailers for AUD $199.95 while stocks last.

The design features laser-etched symbols and references linked to software development culture. According to Logitech, the matte finish includes syntax annotations, markup tags, circuit-style patterns and a printed "{Hello, World}" execution prompt.

It also includes what Logitech describes as hidden references for developers, including "0xFF + 1", "09.17" and "!04.01", pointing to programming and open-source milestones.

Product details

Beyond the styling changes, the device retains the core MX Master 4 feature set. This includes customisable haptic vibration feedback for navigating large code repositories or switching terminal windows, alongside an Actions Ring button designed to provide access to macros and AI coding assistants.

The mouse also includes the MagSpeed scroll wheel, which Logitech says can move through up to 1,000 lines per second and stop with pixel-level precision. The feature is intended to help users move quickly through long documents, code bases and other on-screen tasks.

The launch comes as hardware makers focus more closely on niche user groups, including developers, creators and gamers, with designs and features tailored to specific workflows. In this case, Logitech is combining cosmetic changes with controls it says suit common software development tasks.

Logitech framed the edition as a nod to programmers and others building digital tools. "How many tabs, terminal buffers and documentation pages do you have open right now? We know that software development can have its own rhythm, from the first set of code in the morning to late-night debug sessions. When you are shipping production code or building with AI toolchains, the hardware you use should be a reflection of what you do," the company said.

Developer focus

The move adds to a broader trend of peripheral makers refining products around specific use cases rather than selling a single model to all office workers. Mice and keyboards marketed to developers increasingly highlight shortcut access, software integration and ergonomic support for long working sessions.

For Logitech, the MX Master range already sits at the premium end of its productivity hardware portfolio. A developer edition gives the company a way to speak directly to a technical audience without changing the underlying product architecture.

The mention of AI coding assistants is also notable, as hardware makers seek to align accessories with changes in software development practices. Tools that support code generation, debugging and workflow automation have become a growing part of the daily environment for many developers, and vendors are increasingly adjusting button mapping and software controls to reflect that.

Logitech described the new edition as a tribute to developers. "To honour the builders of tomorrow, we're dropping our first-ever MX Master 4 Developer Edition: a limited edition of our flagship mouse," the company said.

Founded in 1981, Logitech sells hardware across workplace, creative and gaming categories. It is listed in Switzerland and the United States.

The MX Master 4 Developer Edition will retail for AUD $199.95.
