Milestone Systems names Mike Metcalfe South Pacific lead
Milestone Systems has appointed Mike Metcalfe as Key Account Manager South Pacific, bringing him back to the video management software supplier to cover New Zealand and selected major industries in Australia.
The role combines responsibility for the New Zealand market with business development across Australia, focusing on larger organisations and public sector customers. Milestone provides video management, analytics and cloud video services, selling through channel partners as well as directly into key accounts.
Metcalfe's appointment comes as organisations in both countries expand the use of video systems beyond traditional security. Operators in transport, education and major venues increasingly treat video feeds as operational data. In response, vendors are integrating video platforms with other systems and adding analytics to support review and response workflows.
Milestone's regional portfolio includes XProtect video management software, BriefCam video analytics and Arcules cloud video surveillance as a service. Together, they support on-premises and cloud deployments, using an open-platform approach that connects with third-party cameras, sensors and software.
Metcalfe said Milestone's platforms have evolved beyond video capture. "Milestone Systems today is much more than a video capture company," he said. "The platforms have evolved significantly. Solutions like XProtect Video Management, BriefCam analytics and Arcules VSaaS don't just capture and manage video on prem and in the cloud - they augment operations. We can help organisations make better, faster decisions by turning visual data into actionable intelligence that supports safety, efficiency and long-term planning."
Sector focus
The remit covers accounts where public safety, compliance requirements and complex operations place greater emphasis on resilience and incident response. Priority sectors in Australia include critical infrastructure, government, law enforcement, transportation and large-scale commercial environments. In New Zealand, the brief includes market growth and partner engagement.
Use cases include traffic optimisation, crowd management, incident response, asset protection and compliance reporting. These deployments often require integration with access control, alarm management and operational dashboards, as well as partners that can combine software, hardware and integration services across mixed sites and legacy systems.
Milestone has also highlighted adoption beyond security. Video management platforms are increasingly deployed across transportation networks, logistics hubs, tertiary education campuses and major venues, including stadiums and hospitality precincts. These environments often run large camera estates and manage shared spaces where operational teams need consistent processes for monitoring, reviewing events and generating records.
Data initiatives
Alongside commercial growth, Milestone has developed initiatives around responsible use of video data for analytics and artificial intelligence. It has positioned Project Hafnia as a framework for organisations and technology partners to collaborate on training and validating AI models using anonymised video data, with an emphasis on compliance, trust and transparency in handling sensitive footage.
The work reflects wider industry trends as customers examine how AI models are trained and what data governance controls apply to video streams. For vendors, these choices also affect how quickly new analytics functions reach production environments, particularly in regulated sectors such as government, transport and education.
Regional experience
Metcalfe returns to Milestone after roles at Everbridge and Irisity, spanning critical event management and AI-based analytics. The roles involved enterprise deployments across multiple sites and stakeholder groups, experience that Milestone said aligns with customers upgrading existing video platforms and seeking tighter integration with operational systems.
Metcalfe said customers want platforms that work across different requirements and deployment models. "My time working across adjacent technologies has given me a strong appreciation for how video intelligence fits into a much wider operational ecosystem," he said. "Customers are no longer looking for isolated systems. They want platforms that integrate, scale and evolve alongside their operational and regulatory requirements."
Milestone is part of the Canon Group and is headquartered in Copenhagen, with more than 1,500 employees worldwide. In Australia and New Zealand, it serves sectors including manufacturing, airports, law enforcement, retail and traffic management through a mix of direct engagement and partner-led delivery.
"Mike's return comes at a pivotal time for the region," said Jordan Cullis, Director of Sales for Asia-Pacific. "His understanding of our platform, combined with his experience across advanced technology sectors, positions him well to help customers unlock the full value of video intelligence as a strategic operational tool. We couldn't be happier to have Mike's energy and personality back with us."
Metcalfe will lead account development across New Zealand while pursuing new opportunities in Australia in industries where video systems increasingly sit alongside analytics and broader operational data platforms.
