FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hybrid cloud specialists NetApp has been named a Leader in the Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant for primary storage.

The accolade is based on NetApp's ability to execute and completeness of vision - the company was positioned highest for ability to execute, according to the Magic Quadrant report. The positioning showcases NetApp's commitment and dedication to driving data-centric business outcomes across its core competencies, the company says.

"We believe the 2019 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage further demonstrates recognition that our solutions deliver data-driven business outcomes across core, edge and cloud," says Sanjay Rohatgi, senior vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific at NetApp.

"We help organisations simplify data management in hybrid multicloud environments, ensuring they deliver their application data to the right place at the right time, so they can make better, data-driven decisions," he explains.

"At NetApp, our teams are constantly innovating to deliver the leading flash systems and data services portfolio with the deepest integration to the cloud," Rohatgi says.

The Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage replaces two Magic Quadrants: the Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays and the Magic Quadrant for General-Purpose Storage Arrays.

Rohatgi says NetApp's differentiation in the space is clear in three distinct areas:

Data fabric:
"It's data fabric strategy has helped NetApp become a leader in hybrid cloud data services, which includes storage and much more," Rohatgi says.

"NetApp's primary storage portfolio in concert with its data fabric strategy facilitates and simplifies data management in distributed core, edge and cloud IT environments," he explains.

"Ducati built it's Data Fabric to activate massive volumes of data from around the world, reducing the time to get new motorcycles to market by 30% and the cost of powering and cooling its data center by 70%."

Active IQ:
"NetApp's Active IQ uses artificial intelligence and community wisdom to proactively protect and optimise infrastructure to maximise data availability, boost operational performance and efficiency, and simplify data management," says Rohatgi.

"Finnish service provider Oulun uses Active IQ in its data center to provide visibility and predictability into its operations. This allows Oulun to account for unplanned maintenance and performance bottlenecks that might impact its customers," he explains.

NVMe:
"NetApp's solid-state arrays with next-generation, end-to-end NVMe capabilities help our customers improve the performance of their tier one, mission-critical business apps," adds Rohatgi.
