FYI, this story is more than a year old

Australian data centre as a service provider NEXTDC has officially opened M3 Melbourne, the company's largest data centre facility to date.

NEXTDC expects to invest $1.5b in the technology campus over time, which spans a land area of more than 100,000sqm. M3 will deliver 150MW of critical power for technology services and provide essential infrastructure for Australia's digital economy.

Directly interconnecting with NEXTDC's M1 and M2 Melbourne metropolitan campuses, M3 will enable organisations to leverage the performance advantage of direct, low latency connectivity to cloud-dense digital ecosystems, and the unique NEXTDC community of over 770 service providers and partners.

The opening of M3 comes just under a month after NEXTDC's S3 data centre launch in Artarmon, Sydney, underlining the company's customer led growth plan. Located approximately 9km from Sydney's CBD, this facility forms a key pillar of NEXTDC's strategic vision, to create best-in-market infrastructure facilities with 100% uptime guarantees and nationwide connectivity to support the market's strong demand for hybrid cloud services.

"The Australian digital economy is growing rapidly, accelerating the need for interconnected cloud services, sovereign secured and sustainable solutions enabled by Tier IV certified facilities to assure business resilience," says NEXTDC Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Craig Scroggie.

"As a market leader, NEXTDC is responding to market demand by expanding our digital infrastructure platform," he says.

Located in West Footscray, M3 is approximately 9km west of Melbourne's CBD, allowing organisations convenient access to this prime location. The new hyperscale technology campus is strategically situated close to major electricity substations as well as diverse telecommunications network infrastructure, which underpin the unique NEXTDC 100% uptime guarantee, assuring zero down time.

"The size and capability of M3 provides a gateway for Enterprise and Government organisations to directly connect and integrate their IT infrastructure with public and private cloud providers," says Scroggie.

"We are building a community that enhances Australia's access to critical, secure and sovereign connectivity, complimented by our industry leading sustainability solutions."

NEXTDC's ecosystem includes the largest number of direct and secure public cloud platform access points.

"The past few years have shown there is a heightened need for flexible, scalable and integrated technology platforms to support the accelerated digital economy and our new ways of working," adds Scroggie.

"The key to digital transformation success is secure, ultra-low latency cloud connectivity backed by resilient and sustainable infrastructure that allows organisations to optimise their digital footprint."

NEXTDC is an ASX 100-listed technology company. It is recognised globally for the design, construction and operation of Australia's only network of Uptime Institute certified Tier IV facilities, and the only data centre operator in the Southern Hemisphere to achieve Tier IV Gold certification for Operational Sustainability.

NEXTDC's corporate operations and data centre solutions are certified carbon neutral under the Australian Federal Government's Climate Active standard.
