Oracle debuts Generative AI service across its business applications

Oracle has recently unveiled the general availability of its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Generative AI service, marking a significant step forward in the integration and utilization of generative artificial intelligence within the enterprise sector. This development is poised to revolutionize the way businesses approach a myriad of use cases, leveraging the prowess of large language models (LLMs) from industry leaders Cohere and Meta Llama 2.

The OCI Generative AI service is distinguished by its multilingual capabilities, supporting over 100 languages, alongside enhancements in GPU cluster management and flexible fine-tuning options. This innovation allows businesses to deploy generative AI both in the cloud and on-premises, providing a versatile solution that caters to a broad spectrum of business needs.

Greg Pavlik, Senior Vice President of AI and Data Management at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, emphasized the company's approach, stating, "Oracle's AI focus is on solving real-world business use cases to enable widespread adoption in the enterprise. We are embedding AI across all layers of the technology stack by integrating generative AI into our applications and converged database, and offering new LLMs and managed services—all supported by a fast and cost-effective AI infrastructure."

The OCI Generative AI service simplifies the customization of generative AI models for tasks such as text generation, summarisation, and semantic similarity. This managed service, accessible via API calls, enables customers to seamlessly and securely integrate generative AI into their technology stack, ensuring robust data security and governance. The service's flexibility allows for further refinement of these models using retrieval augmented generation (RAG) techniques tailored to the unique operational needs of each enterprise.

In a significant stride towards democratizing access to AI, Oracle has previewed its OCI Generative AI Agents service, currently in beta. This innovative service combines the capabilities of LLMs with enterprise search, enabling users to interact with a wide array of enterprise data through natural language. This approach not only simplifies access to information but also ensures that the results are current and accurately referenced to the original data sources.

Oracle's comprehensive integration of generative AI extends across its entire technology stack, from cloud applications to its database portfolio. For instance, the Royal Flying Doctor Service is exploring the integration of generative AI to improve emergency healthcare workflows in Australia's remote regions. Similarly, Raedyne Systems is leveraging Oracle's AI infrastructure to enhance energy grid insights and reliability. Helfie is utilizing Oracle's technology to integrate preventative health measures into daily life through advanced machine learning tools.
