Oracle integrates ServiceNow into its cloud infrastructure
Mon, 19th Apr 2021
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Oracle has announced the integration of ServiceNow into its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

The integration means enterprise customers have the ability to access and manage OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) resources via their existing ServiceNow service portal and the ITOM (ServiceNow IT Operations Management) Visibility application, which will give them a single dashboard to manage their public cloud resources from Oracle and other cloud providers.

This comes as a continuation of Oracle expanding its cloud portfolio, which includes 29 Oracle Cloud regions, Oracle Government Cloud, and seven global Oracle-Microsoft Azure Interconnect regions and support for hybrid cloud strategies.

There are now a number of companies using ServiceNow's IT Service Management and IT Operations Management platforms. With this integration, these companies will have the ability to discover and manage OCI IaaS, PaaS, and CaaS resources using ITOM Visibility as they would for other cloud resources.

“Enterprise customers are increasingly moving toward a multi-cloud environment and need an easy way to manage all of their cloud resources,” says Oracle Cloud Infrastructure's vice president of product, industries, and partnerships, Scott Twaddle.

“This is a big step forward for all of our customers that are using Oracle, as well as other major cloud providers to run their business-critical applications,” he says.

“Now customers can leverage their existing ServiceNow Service portal to view and manage all of their cloud resources, including Oracle.

All the Oracle Cloud discoverable cloud resources are now extracted and stored in the ServiceNow Configuration Management Database repository, which can be used to monitor the availability of those resources for IT services, operations, and support level management.

In addition, the combining of CMDB (configuration management database) content with ServiceNow's AIOps (artificial intelligence for IT operations) solution will enable customers to monitor workloads deployed in OCI and provide service context with tag-based service mapping.

“With this integration, ServiceNow and Oracle are making it seamless for enterprises to unlock productivity for distributed teams to deliver products and services faster, access powerful business insights and create great experiences for employees, wherever they may be,” says ServiceNow's vice president - general manager of Operations Management - Data Foundations, Jeff Hausman.

“Joint customers leveraging the Now Platform and OCI will get the best of both worlds, a seamless experience that maximises the value of cloud investments and the ability to harness the power of artificial intelligence for proactive operations.

Some customers including the UK's Network Rail, say they see promise in the integration.

“At Network Rail we utilise ServiceNow to keep track of our systems and assets, and we were very happy to see we can observe our Oracle Cloud Infrastructure deployment,” says Network Rails database and middleware infrastructure manager, Iain Sear.

“We look forward to expanding our use of both systems to serve our customers and operational teams.
