OVHcloud launches High Grade Bare Metal servers with Intel CPU

Wed, 25th Sep 2024

OVHcloud has introduced new dedicated High-Grade Bare Metal servers featuring the latest Intel Xeon Gold fifth-generation processors. The launch is aimed at supporting demanding, mission-critical, and sensitive workloads, including confidential computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and virtualisation.

Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product Technology Officer at OVHcloud, expressed enthusiasm for the update, stating: "We are thrilled to refresh our most advanced solutions with the latest and greatest x86 CPU options in configurations that address the many needs of our customers, from solving hyper-converged infrastructures challenges to addressing the ever-growing needs for storage."

The new servers benefit from Intel TDX technology and built-in accelerators, enhancing performance, particularly for hyper-converged and storage infrastructures. Intel's Emerald Rapids microarchitecture underpins the new OVHcloud HCI, SDS, and STOR lines. This architecture offers improved compute capabilities, faster memory, and enhanced security measures. Technologies like Intel TDX contribute to strengthened virtual machine (VM) isolation, advancing security, compliance, and control for legacy applications.

Jean-Laurent Philippe, Chief Technology Officer at Intel EMEA, highlighted the benefits of the fifth-generation Intel Xeon processors: "We are excited to deliver a higher throughput and an improved efficiency with our 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, offering increased confidentiality at the VM level without compromising performance. With its built-in accelerator engines, 5th Gen Intel Xeon speeds up AI workloads, encryption, data compression, and data movement between nodes."

The HGR-HCI lineup is specifically designed for hyperconverged infrastructures. It features Intel's fifth generation of Xeon Gold processors in a dual-processor configuration, ranging from the Intel Xeon Gold 5515+ with 2x8 cores (2x16 threads) to the Intel Xeon Gold 6554S with 2x36 cores (2x72 threads). All HGR-HCI models come with 256 GB of base DDR5 memory and a 2x960 GB SSD storage option, which can be customised with additional SSD capacity up to 3.84 TB.

The HGR-SDS lineup is intended for software-defined storage infrastructures suitable for databases, platform object storage, and big data. This range also features dual-processor configurations, including the Intel Xeon Gold 5515+ with 2x8 cores (2x16 threads) and the Intel Xeon Gold 6542Y with 2x24 cores (2x48 threads). Both models come with 256 GB of DDR5 memory, which can be configured up to 1.5 TB, and a 2x960GB SSD system with storage options reaching up to 15.36 TB.

For heavy storage needs, OVHcloud has updated the HGR-STOR line. The HGR-STOR-1 model now comes with the Intel Xeon Gold 6554S in a single-processor configuration with 36 cores and 72 threads, with 128 GB of DDR5 memory, scalable up to 768 GB. The HGR-STOR-1 features a 2x 960 GB SSD-based system and additional storage of up to 36x22 TB SAS HDD, totalling 792 TB. Users also have the option to include cache capacity up to 2x 15 TB.

These new servers are designed to provide high-speed bandwidth, supporting up to 25 Gbps unmetered private bandwidth and 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps public bandwidth. OVHcloud's new HGR models aim to deliver flexibility, control, performance, and availability, ensuring critical applications and data remain accessible with two 25 Gbps redundant private network links.

The introduction of the new High-Grade Bare Metal servers aligns with OVHcloud's commitment to data protection and sustainability. The company's environmentally friendly data centres employ a water-cooling system to optimise energy use and features ISO 27001 certification and HDS standards.

The new OVHcloud HGR-HCI-i, HGR-SDS, and HGR-STOR models are available in data centres in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, the UK, the USA, and the APAC region.
