Pega unveils new tools to aid legacy system modernisation

Wed, 20th Nov 2024

Pegasystems has announced new capabilities in its Pega GenAI Blueprint to accelerate the modernization of legacy systems for organisations.

The AI-infused workflow design platform, Pega GenAI Blueprint, now features additional capabilities aimed at speeding up the digital transformation process by rapidly assessing existing IT assets. These enhancements allow IT teams to create modern, cloud-native application blueprints swiftly, bypassing traditionally long discovery processes.

According to a global survey by Protiviti, nearly 70% of C-level leaders report that technical debt significantly hinders their organisations' ability to innovate. The modifications aim to alleviate the technical debt crisis that affects organisations' innovation by enabling a quicker transition from old systems to new ones.

The newly introduced legacy discovery features include tools for analysing workflows using Business Process Model and Notation (.bpmn) files, transforming these into new workflow blueprints through Pega's case management system. It also offers process mining to detect inefficiencies and optimise processes, with insights immediately translatable into Pega blueprints.

Additionally, Pega GenAI Blueprint can import data definition language (.DDL) files to generate a data model for new applications, expediting data migration into cloud-native services. Integration analysis is also provided through Pega GenAI Blueprint's review of OpenAPI documents in YAML (.yaml) format, facilitating streamlined data model generation for enhanced workflow integration.

Pega GenAI Blueprint has seen rapid adoption since its launch, with more than 60,000 blueprints created. The platform's use of generative AI allows organisations to innovate quickly, crafting functional app designs efficiently based on natural language descriptions and drawing from Pega's expertise and best practices.

Arnie Ignacio, Vice President of Platform Engineering at Navy Federal Credit Union, stated, "Our team is heavily focused on continually modernizing our systems so we can provide the best possible experience to our members. Pega GenAI Blueprint has greatly accelerated our ability to reimagine our systems and get all stakeholders on the same page. By enabling us to import existing documentation on our legacy systems into our blueprints, we can kickstart our digital transformation projects even faster by significantly shrinking the time it takes to map our existing technology, which we can then optimize into more modern applications."

Prashant Gaonkar, Vice President and Global Head of Enterprise Integration and Process Orchestration at Cognizant, commented, "Pega GenAI Blueprint has the potential to disrupt the workflow design lifecycle by enabling business users, product managers, architects, and developers to move quickly and responsibly, from ideation to realization, for complex business processes. I believe that the ability to quickly create modern, ready-to-build cloud-native application blueprints helps deliver an optimized customer journey, and we are seeing a positive impact in Pega adoption when Pega GenAI Blueprint is leveraged."

Kerim Akgonul, Chief Product Officer at Pega, added, "There are only so many Band-Aids that IT can keep applying before their systems reach a breaking point. But digital transformation is a herculean undertaking that's typically fraught with failure. These new features in Pega GenAI Blueprint turbocharge modernization projects so organizations can finally shed their outdated tech and curb technical debt while paving the way for a future-ready business."
