Perforce's JRebel report reveals rise of productivity teams in Java development

Wed, 13th Mar 2024

Perforce Software has released its annual 'JRebel 2024 Java Developer Productivity Report', a comprehensive survey of Java developers worldwide. The report provides key industry data and analysis, highlighting the factors influencing the evolution of Java development trends.

Among several key findings, the report discloses that a significant 42% of the surveyed companies have formed dedicated teams or work groups to boost developer productivity. This approach facilitates productive efficiency within increasingly complex development environments. Furthermore, it was spotted a change towards Java IDE preferences, a rise in the use of microservices, and a considerable duration involved in remote deployment times.

"Developer productivity teams are paving the path forward," said Rod Cope, CTO at Perforce. These teams investigate solutions and test workflows so developers can concentrate on writing code—and pay dividends as development environments become increasingly complex. This is the first year we've tracked the incidence of dedicated productivity teams, and at 42%, we only expect that number to skyrocket."

The 2024 Java Developer Productivity Report also discovered that 8% of respondents have turned to artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT and GitHub CoPilot to assist their Java coding processes. This finding illustrates the rise of AI in enhancing developer productivity and demonstrates the increasing reliance on technology to optimise work processes.

The annual report by Perforce is a prime source of data for industry insiders and developers, revealing crucial trends and changes within the Java community. The report's findings have significant implications for the future of Java development, as companies are increasingly recognising the importance of focused teams and AI tools to boost their productivity and efficiency.

The release of the 2024 Java Developer Productivity Report highlights the ongoing commitment of Perforce Software; its mission is to illuminate the trends and key factors at play in Java development. Perforce Software delivers solutions that ensure productivity, visibility, and scalability throughout the development lifecycle. Their contributions and influence are recognised globally and utilised by many leading brands, further underlining the significance of their annual Java report.
