Precision OT unveils QSFP28 100ZR transceiver for networks

Fri, 22nd Nov 2024

Precision Optical Technologies has announced the availability of its QSFP28 100ZR coherent tunable DWDM transceiver.

The product is designed to enhance access and edge networks by enabling 100G DWDM interfaces without the need for costly external transport equipment or new infrastructure components. This development offers a cost-effective solution that can be integrated into existing systems, supporting unamplified grey links up to distances of 80-100km, DWDM links ranging from 30-80km, and extended reaches up to 300km with amplified DWDM links.

The QSFP28 form factor is compatible with most legacy host devices that support QSFP28 transceivers, provided these devices can accommodate the higher power consumption and heat dissipation requirements.

"With the launch of our QSFP28 100ZR solution, we're excited to deliver a high-performance, cost-effective offering tailored to meet the needs of modern internet broadband and telecommunications providers," said Keith Habberfield, Vice President of Global Sales at Belden.

The transceiver is expected to serve various sectors including 5G backhaul, business customer connections, and hub-to-hub links. The aim is to facilitate a shift towards IPoDWDM in Access, Edge, and Metro networks, thereby reducing reliance on expensive and time-consuming transport solutions.

Habberfield added, "This transceiver extends 100G reach capabilities in DWDM networks to unprecedented distances for a single QSFP28 pluggable optic, delivering reliable, low-latency performance with existing QSFP28 ports and devices - all while meeting the growing demand for data throughput. We're proud to support our customers' growing bandwidth requirements with an innovative solution that's easy to retrofit, deploy, and scale."

The initial release of the QSFP28 100ZR includes features such as a transmission output power ranging from -8.5 to -4dBm, a single rate of 100GbE, C-temp (0 to +70C), and compatibility with the SFF-8636 Management Interface. Precision OT has announced plans to release several additional product variations in the coming year.
