Queensland taps iseek for DCaaS on ICT panel

By Ben Moore
Wed 17 Jul 2019
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Queensland Government has appointed iseek, a data center, cloud and connectivity provider, to its information and communication technologies (ICT) supplier panel for the provision of Data Center as a Service (DCaaS), allowing the company to provide data center services to Queensland Government departments, agencies and government-owned corporations.

The appointment was finalised by CITEC, a division of the Queensland Government’s Department of Housing and Public Works.

The appointment comes on the back of iseek revealing expansion plans at its Eagle Farm data center campus with a Tier 4 rated 6MW facility (joining the existing 4MW facility at the site) in February of this year.

The company is also putting the finishing touches on its North Queensland Regional Data Center in Townsville which is set to open in July 2019.

“I am very proud to be able to announce our appointment to the DCaaS panel, particularly as iseek is one of only three providers currently on the panel,” says iseek CEO and managing director Jason Gomersall.

“iseek has been providing data center services in Brisbane for over 15 years and communications services nationally for over 20 years. The appointment to the DCaaS panel presents a significant opportunity and validation of the high levels of customer service we have been providing to some of Queensland’s and Australia’s biggest companies for nearly 20 years.”

The opportunity for Queensland government data to be stored within the State is also key, with governments and enterprise customers globally taking more of an interest in where their data is held and by whom.

“Data sovereignty is an increasing concern for organisations and government, and that is being driven as much by their constituents and customers as it is by leadership,” Gomersall adds.

“As a proud Queensland company, iseek is very pleased to be able to provide our State Government with access to class-leading facilities in their own backyard as opposed to being forced to consider options interstate.”

The panel appointment is the latest development in a busy 12 months for iseek, having welcomed private equity investment in August 2018 and commenced construction of its Townsville facility shortly thereafter, while also winning several large enterprise network opportunities in the period since.

The company is well-positioned to take advantage of the rapid growth in the data center industry, with market analysts projecting the global data center services market to exceed $200B by 2020 and the global data center construction market to be worth up to $57B by 2025.

iseek was founded in Brisbane over 20 years ago with enterprise-class data centers located in Brisbane, Sydney and Townsville.

Its purpose-built and engineered data centers provide a robust foundation for its network solutions interconnected via redundant high-speed inter-capital links, in addition to high capacity Internet connections via multiple tier 1 carriers.

iseek’s services are also backed by service level guarantees to ensure maximum performance, availability and operation of business-critical systems.
