Reolink launches Altas 2K battery camera with pre-recording

Today

Reolink has announced the launch of its new Altas camera, a 4MP Wi-Fi battery-powered security device featuring pre-recording technology,

in the Australian market. The Altas camera is now available for purchase and includes a 6-watt solar panel for optional continuous power.

Designed to improve user awareness and surveillance effectiveness, the Reolink Altas aims to address key pain points in battery-operated home security by offering enhanced functionality and longer-lasting performance.

"Compared to conventional battery cameras that start recording after the PIR sensor is triggered, Reolink Altas utilises smart pre-recording and captures footage up to 10 seconds before motion is detected," the company stated in its official release.

The pre-recording feature enables the camera to preserve crucial moments leading up to an event, such as the approach of a person or an early indication of suspicious behaviour.

"By preserving the critical lead-up to an event, Altas ensures the entire sequence is recorded—from the first subtle movement to the full incident—so users never miss a key detail," Reolink added.

Power efficiency is another core element of the Altas system. The camera houses a high-capacity 20,000mAh battery, designed to deliver extended usage on a single charge. According to Reolink, the Altas can operate for up to 336 hours (14 days) when using its pre-recording function continuously. In motion-triggered mode, the battery life extends significantly, offering up to 540 days of performance when based on 300 seconds of daily video capture.

To reduce the need for manual recharging, users can also connect the device to a 6-watt solar panel. Reolink stated: "Just one hour of direct sunlight per day is enough to keep the camera continuously powered for pre-recording function. This means less manual charging, lower energy use, and round-the-clock protection with minimal effort."

The camera's night vision capabilities also mark a notable step forward.

The Altas features Reolink's proprietary ColorX technology, which leverages an ultra-large F1.0 aperture lens and a 1/1.8" sensor. This combination allows the camera to capture significantly more light than traditional infrared setups.

"This results in sharp, 2K resolution footage with vivid colours, even in extremely low-light environments," said Reolink. The technology also reduces visual drawbacks such as glare and reflections from artificial lighting sources. "Beyond brightness, ColorX minimises common issues found in spotlight-only cameras, such as harsh reflections from walls, providing users with clearer and more actionable video footage at night," the company explained.

Additional features include AI-powered detection that can differentiate between people, animals and vehicles. These detection tools are included without any subscription fees, and the camera offers local storage options for improved security and privacy.

Reolink described the Altas as a continuation of its mission to enhance everyday safety through intuitive, advanced products.

"With the launch of Altas camera, Reolink continues to push the boundaries of smart home security, combining advanced features with an intuitive, user-centric design to deliver more complete protection for everyday life."

The Reolink Altas is available for purchase directly in Australia and is expected to appeal to users seeking a comprehensive surveillance solution with minimal maintenance and maximum reliability.
