Serco halves integration project times with Boomi AI agents

Mon, 29th Sep 2025

Serco Asia Pacific has deployed Boomi's artificial intelligence agents to drastically reduce the amount of time required to document and deliver system integrations across its operations in the region.

The company, which provides public services for governments globally, including in sectors such as defence, healthcare, justice and community services, has accelerated its digital transformation using the Boomi Enterprise Platform.

Integration processes

Serco traditionally utilised Boomi for core integration requirements, but the discovery of Boomi Scribe and DesignGen prompted a significant shift in approach and capability. Kiran Narayan, Director, Products and Digital Capabilities at Serco, explained the breakthrough came after learning more about these tools.

"We've always used Boomi for core integration, but what we uncovered at last year's Boomi World Tour Sydney completely reframed what's possible," said Kiran Narayan, Director, Products and Digital Capabilities at Serco. "We realised that powerful Boomi AI agents like Boomi Scribe and Boomi DesignGen were already sitting within our Boomi Enterprise Platform license. Within minutes, we were experimenting with them live. That moment kickstarted a brand new way of thinking and working."

The company rapidly mobilised its integration team to trial and introduce the AI-powered software. These agents are designed to utilise natural language prompts, enabling users to create and deploy system integrations more efficiently, supporting both technical and non-technical users.

Efficiency improvement

Boomi Scribe has become an integral part of Serco's documentation process, providing clear documentation for individual interfaces. DesignGen adds visual elements to the process, helping teams communicate more effectively and fostering stakeholder confidence.

The time savings reported by the team have been substantial. According to Kiran Narayan: "Previously, it would take an integration developer around two or three hours to write up a document formatted in a way customers understand. With Boomi Scribe, it takes 10 to 15 minutes."

Completion times for documenting and delivering integration projects, which had previously required 40 to 60 hours including meetings and stakeholder engagement, have now been reduced to between 6 and 12 hours on average.

Operational transformation

This adoption follows Serco's transition of integration workloads from self-managed Boomi runtime clusters to the Boomi Managed Cloud Service. The organisation also plans to introduce Boomi Event Streams for improved real-time data flow and notification capabilities and is focusing on leveraging Boomi AI Agents through the Boomi Agentstudio environment.

A key part of Narayan's strategy is to allow business leaders themselves to create first-draft integrations, which subsequently relieves specialised technical teams to focus on more complex work. He said, "With Boomi, we eliminate bottlenecks without losing control. Empowering business users to model within a governed framework dramatically accelerates how quickly value can be delivered."

Serco's ongoing digital transformation also incorporates the use of Boomi DataHub and Boomi API Management, aiming to uphold consistency and integrity in the company's data assets for further operational benefit.

Leadership perspective

The effectiveness of the programme has reportedly gained strong support from across Serco's leadership. As Kiran Narayan described, "The success we've had so far has ignited real excitement among our senior leaders, from the CIO to the business unit heads."

Boomi's Asia Pacific and Japan Chief Technology Officer, David Irecki, commented on the partnership, saying, "Serco's journey reflects the future of integration: low-code, AI-enabled, and business-empowered. It's been an incredible privilege to partner with a team that moves fast, thinks strategically, and is committed to democratising innovation across the organisation."

Serco will continue its efforts to modernise integration, streamline documentation, and expand the use of AI-powered solutions as it moves forward with its digital and business transformation initiatives.
