Simr secures USD $20 million to boost engineering simulations tenfold

Wed, 22nd May 2024

Simr, previously known as UberCloud, has launched Simulation Operations Automation (SimOps) to transform product development in manufacturing by significantly accelerating computer-based simulations. This advancement promises a tenfold increase in simulation speed. The company also announced that it has secured USD $20 million in Series A funding from BMW i Ventures, Uncorrelated Ventures, and Earlybird Venture Capital to bring these benefits to design engineers globally.

Simr’s new platform allows engineers to perform sophisticated simulations in the cloud without managing complex High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. This innovation aims to boost productivity and streamline operations by providing a unified platform for any computing resources and leading simulation tools. The platform has established partnerships with simulation software providers, including Ansys, Siemens, and Dassault Systèmes.

Steven M. Levine, Senior Director of Virtual Human Modeling at Dassault Systèmes, stated that Simr's insights have highlighted the challenges engineers and IT teams face in managing cloud simulation environments. Levine noted that SimOps offers a streamlined approach that could significantly impact many organisations.

With the closing of the new funding round, several new board members have joined Simr's board of directors. These include Salil Deshpande, General Partner at Uncorrelated Ventures, Baris Guzel from BMW i Ventures, Ali Kutay, CEO and Chairman of Striim, and Roland Manger, Co-founder and Partner at Earlybird Venture Capital.

Baris Guzel from BMW i Ventures remarked that SimOps provides a powerful advantage to engineering teams by allowing them to explore more options quickly and at lower costs. According to Guzel, this positions Simr strategically as manufacturing becomes more digital and simulation-driven.

SimOps aims to revolutionise the timeline for designing and testing products by automating simulations. The platform allows engineers to focus on design decisions without the overhead of managing computational resources. This capability is crucial for companies aiming to stay competitive in a fast-paced, innovation-driven market.

Earl Joseph, CEO at Hyperion Research, commented that the ability to run simulations quickly and efficiently distinguishes high-performing engineering teams from their competitors. Joseph emphasised that technologies like SimOps, which streamline simulation processes, are highly valued by designers, engineers, and researchers.

Greg Collins, Senior IT Director of Engineering Systems at BorgWarner, underscored the agility that Simr's platform provides, enabling companies to innovate and lead in product development. Meanwhile, Holger Kirketerp from FLSmidth noted that the platform is critical for advancing their MissionZero initiative, which aims to achieve zero-emissions mining operations by 2030.

Manfred Ferstl, Head of IT Technology Operations at DEHN, lauded the platform for accelerating simulations by a factor of six without additional hardware investments. This capability has led to significant time and cost savings for the company.

Additionally, Metin Ozen, CEO and Principal of Ozen Engineering praised Simr for enabling engineers to develop higher-quality products in less time by simplifying the setup and management of compute resources.
