Synology spotlights data sovereignty & AI at Solution Day 2025

Mon, 22nd Sep 2025

Synology has hosted the first Asia-Pacific stop of its Solution Day 2025 in Melbourne, with more than 250 IT leaders and partners attending to view the company's new enterprise storage, data protection and AI productivity offerings.

At the event, Synology highlighted solutions designed to address evolving enterprise needs, especially as issues such as data sovereignty and cyber resilience become more prominent for Australian organisations.

Joanne Weng, Director of International Business at Synology, said, "Synology's mission is to build a better world with data. As AI transforms the way organisations operate, it is crucial for businesses to maintain control and sovereignty over their information. At Solution Day 2025, we showcased solutions that prioritise data autonomy, enabling Australian businesses to make informed decisions, safeguard critical assets, and responsibly leverage technology to drive sustainable outcomes."

Data resilience and sovereignty

A major component of Synology Solution Day was a panel discussion focusing on cyber resilience and data sovereignty. The session featured Dr Edwin R. Lampugnani, Founding Director and Chief Executive Officer of AirHealth; Grant Crough, Chief Information Security Officer of LEAP Strategies; and Neil Shan, Managing Director of IT Ecosystems.

"Accurate, timely health alerts rely on uncompromised data integrity," said Dr. Lampugnani. "At AirHealth, it's a privilege to hold citizen data, and safeguarding it is central to our mission - ensuring public trust and enabling government to protect community health."

Dr Lampugnani went on to address particular challenges faced by startups. "Startups like ours face similar challenges. With an easy-to-manage on-premises solution and predictable total cost of ownership, Synology makes it simple to achieve true data sovereignty."

Grant Crough of LEAP Strategies emphasised the existential importance of cybersecurity for organisations. "Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT concern - it's an issue of survival. Organisations that fail to build resilience and uphold data sovereignty won't just face downtime; they risk regulatory penalties, reputational damage, and the irreversible loss of trust."

Neil Shan noted some of the practical difficulties many Australian small and medium-sized businesses experience. "As much as businesses understand the value of keeping data on-premises, it's not always practical for Australian SMBs. But with the right tools, they can still protect critical information, stay compliant, and build resilience."

The panellists jointly highlighted that resilient data strategies, strengthened by robust technology and security architectures, are essential to operating securely in today's digital economy.

Product development

Synology used the event to present its latest enterprise storage products, such as the PAS Series, which employs active-active dual controller architecture and end-to-end NVMe technology.

The company also previewed the forthcoming DSM 7.3 software that introduces updated security and storage efficiency measures.

Productivity and communications solutions were a further focus, with demonstrations of Synology's Office Suite, which includes real-time collaborative tools, and a new unified communication platform integrating messaging and video conferencing. Attendees were also shown AI-driven productivity tools for document management, integrated via the Synology AI Console, with support for on-premises AI server integration and the ability to deploy custom AI agents to automate workflows.

Joanne Weng commented on the company's evolving market position.

"Synology's growth from a prosumer and SMB storage vendor into a full-scale enterprise solution provider reflects the rising demand for secure, resilient, and AI-ready infrastructure. At Synology Solution Day Australia, conversations with our partners and clients reinforced how critical data control, security, and responsible AI adoption have become. The ANZ region is at the forefront of these shifts, and our priority is to equip IT teams with solutions that simplify management while enabling businesses to stay secure, independent, and future-ready."

Channel partnerships

The Solution Day also included a gala dinner recognising local partners and distributors. Distributors Bluechip Infotech, Multimedia Technology, and Silicon Memory Technology were formally acknowledged for their contributions to Synology's business within Australia and New Zealand.

Gold partners CompNow and LEAP Strategies were similarly recognised for their involvement in supporting the adoption of Synology solutions by businesses across the region.
