TCL has started selling its SQD-Mini LED television range in Australia, with the line-up including the X11L, C8L and C7L models.

The new sets are available through major local retailers as TCL expands its 2026 television portfolio in Australia.

The launch introduces to Australia a product category that combines Mini LED backlighting with TCL's Super Quantum Dot technology. Across the range, the televisions are positioned as an upgrade to existing Mini LED models, with changes aimed at light control, colour reproduction and screen design.

All televisions in the 2026 range come with Google Gemini AI pre-installed. TCL says it is the first television brand to launch sets with Gemini already installed.

The Australian release also comes as TCL highlights its position in the global television market. Research firm Omdia ranked the company first by shipment market share for 75-inch-and-above television sets in 2025, first in global Mini LED TV shipment market share in 2025, and first in the global Google TV shipment market from 2021 to 2025.

Range details

The SQD-Mini LED range available in Australia consists of the flagship X11L, the C8L and the C7L. TCL's broader 2026 television portfolio also includes other QD-Mini LED and QLED models, including the P7LS, P8LS and C6L.

TCL says the new range is built around three main technology changes. The first is precise dimming, which refers to backlight control through updated light-emitting chips, micro-lens technology, reduced halo interference, a micro-OD design and light control algorithms.

According to the company, these changes are intended to improve brightness, screen uniformity, dark-scene rendering and motion handling, while also allowing a slimmer profile. Such features have become central selling points in the television market as manufacturers compete on picture quality and industrial design rather than broad format changes.

The second element, branded Super QLED, delivers a 33% wider colour gamut, 17% higher colour purity and 45% blue light energy optimisation, according to TCL.

The third is an ultra colour filter that the company says was developed over five years. TCL says the filter uses upgraded materials and a refined production process, with particle sizes below 5 nanometres to reduce colour impurities and improve on-screen colour accuracy.

Flagship model

At the top of the new line-up is the X11L, which TCL describes as the world's first SQD-Mini LED flagship television. The model was first unveiled at CES 2026 and later received the Innovative Display Technology Gold Award at the Global Top Brands Awards, founded by International Data Group and supported by IDC.

The launch in Australia reflects a broader trend in the global television market towards larger screens, brighter panels and greater contrast control. Mini LED has become an important battleground for major manufacturers seeking to differentiate premium models from lower-cost LED televisions while competing with OLED in higher price segments.

Manufacturers have increasingly focused on adding dimming zones, improving backlight precision and expanding colour performance to address bloom, black-level performance and overall image consistency. TCL's messaging around SQD-Mini LED reflects that wider industry shift.

Australia has become a key market for global consumer electronics brands selling large-screen televisions, with retailers using major sporting periods, home entertainment demand and replacement cycles to support premium TV sales. By bringing the X11L, C8L and C7L to local shelves, TCL is adding more options in a category where Korean, Chinese and Japanese brands compete heavily on screen technology and software features.

Hawk Zhang, Managing Director of TCL Electronics Australia and New Zealand, commented on the local launch. "TCL's mission has always been to make advanced technology accessible while continuing to push the boundaries of what display products can do. We're thrilled to bring our 2026 TV line-up to the Australian market," he said.

Zhang also outlined the company's view of the display changes in the new sets. "With wider colour gamut, precise colour control, more dimming zones, higher brightness and thinner designs, SQD represents a major upgrade in Mini LED technology and the future of television production," he said.
