URSYS & CID Group launch sovereign connectivity pact

URSYS and CID Group have formed an equity-based strategic partnership in Australia centred on a sovereign connectivity framework for critical industries.

The arrangement goes beyond a conventional reseller agreement, giving URSYS four roles: authorised reseller, sole supplier of rapid-deployment connectivity assets, sole support supplier for the control plane, and an equity stakeholder in CID Group.

At the centre of the tie-up is what the companies call a Data Sovereign Logistics Framework, designed to provide a chain of custody for data, video and artificial intelligence workloads from field devices to sovereign data centres.

The framework combines private 5G spectrum, Nokia-based infrastructure, satellite backhaul and sovereign data centre services. It is intended to remove reliance on public internet paths for sensitive operational traffic.

The offer targets sectors where data handling and infrastructure control carry regulatory or national security significance, including mining, energy, aviation, ports, utilities, local government, logistics, construction and industrial operations.

Managed model

The companies are positioning the service as a managed operating expenditure model rather than a large upfront capital investment. That would allow operators to adopt private 5G, satellite links and sovereign infrastructure without funding a full in-house build.

The framework has three layers. The first covers on-site edge processing through private spectrum and industrial platforms. The second uses private backhaul, including fibre, network-as-a-service and satellite links. The third places data in sovereign data centres accredited for critical infrastructure workloads.

The approach reflects broader concern in parts of the infrastructure market about cyber risk, operational resilience and the location of sensitive data. Operators of surveillance systems, industrial control networks and remote monitoring tools face growing scrutiny over how information is transported and stored.

CID Group brings access to licensed terrestrial spectrum that the companies describe as one of the largest concentrations in the southern hemisphere. URSYS said its role draws on more than three decades of experience in remote connectivity deployments and support in Australia.

Sector demand

The partnership is aimed at asset owners and operators managing remote or distributed sites, including brownfield mining operations, pipeline and grid assets, airport systems, port logistics and urban security infrastructure. The release also cited applications in access control, emergency warning systems and smart city operations.

Joint projects are already under way across several industry segments, with a number of significant deployments in active development, suggesting the tie-up has moved beyond the planning stage.

According to the companies, the partnership has been operational since August 2025. They are now targeting customers that need local control of connectivity and data flows across critical infrastructure environments.

The deal comes as more Australian organisations seek sovereign options for communications and data handling, particularly in sectors subject to tighter infrastructure and cyber obligations. Telecoms providers and specialist network operators have been expanding private wireless, satellite and local hosting offers to meet demand for domestic custody of sensitive information.

URSYS describes itself as a communications specialist focused on remote and mission-critical environments, including government, mining, resources, emergency services and industrial operations. Its services include private low Earth orbit satellite connectivity, secure Starlink services, private 5G and integrated network management.

CID Group operates in private 5G, sovereign data logistics, private low Earth orbit connectivity, security systems and deployable network infrastructure. Its markets include ports, airports, transport, construction, government, enterprise and defence.

One practical aim of the arrangement is to create a single managed route for data from the field edge to a domestic data centre without a public internet hop. That proposition is likely to resonate with operators seeking more direct oversight of surveillance footage, SCADA telemetry and AI-related processing.
