Video: 10 Minute IT Jams - An update from Keeper Security
Keeper Security, a company at the forefront of password and access management, is making bold strides into the Asia-Pacific market. Last month, the firm marked the official opening of its new regional headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, a move that signals increasing demand for robust cyber security solutions across the region.
Darren Guccione, CEO and co-founder of Keeper Security, spoke about the expansion in an in-depth interview. He described the Tokyo office launch as a significant milestone for the organisation, one celebrated with both the Japanese and United States governments present.
"We memorialised the launch of our office in Tokyo, Japan, and that is serving the Asia Pacific market - all of those countries in Asia including New Zealand and Australia," Guccione said. "It's been phenomenal. We launched the office quietly a few months ago but again memorialised that with the Japanese government, US government – we had Rahm Emanuel, the US ambassador, there, as well as partners, advocates and team members of course."
The cyber security market in the Asia-Pacific region is expanding rapidly, but Guccione suggested it is critically underserved. He commented: "That market is gigantic and they're in desperate need of cyber security innovation and protection. So we came to the calling and we're very pleased and honoured to have opened there."
Keeper Security has become known for its accessible, user-friendly solutions based on strict zero trust and zero knowledge principles. These frameworks ensure that only authorised users can access systems and that even Keeper itself cannot read or decrypt users' stored information. The company's main offerings focus on enterprise password management, secrets management, privilege connection management, and privileged access management.
"We specialise in the identity and access management market," Guccione explained. "With that, we focus on Enterprise password management, secrets management, privilege connection management and privileged access management."
He added that the company saw an opportunity to unify traditionally fragmented elements of cyber security. "We saw a significant opportunity to unify some products and very important solutions across zero trust and zero knowledge frameworks in a ubiquitous or singular cyber security offering, mainly around privileged access. Privileged access traditionally has been focused just on the IT department and we recognise that in an environment it's really important to have complete visibility, security and control over your cyber security environment."
Guccione believes in the need for comprehensive oversight of organisational access, stating, "You have to know what's happening with every team member in the organisation and anyone who transacts on the corporate systems, websites or applications - including contractors - should also be part of this framework."
In the pursuit of this goal, Keeper Security has consolidated what Guccione described as "otherwise disparate and isolated solutions in cyber security and brought them into one single platform with a set of reports, real-time information and of course zero trust and zero knowledge across the board to make something that was elegant, comprehensive, very easy to use and of course hyper secure."
Despite these developments in Asia Pacific, core technical work remains in the United States. "The Tokyo office is mainly just B2B sales and marketing," Guccione said. "All of our product innovation and advancement is done out of the United States, out of California, and we continue to do that and we will into the future as well. So, no plans to do any of the IP development in Asia Pacific, but again we've seated the office with a core team of people and we expect that to rapidly expand based on product demand and need."
Guccione is confident about the upward trajectory of the company's Asia-Pacific operations. He explained, "We've seated the office with a core team of people and we expect that to rapidly expand based on product demand and need."
As for product improvements, Keeper Security's development teams are concentrating efforts on both interface and functionality innovations. "We're about to launch a completely new user interface, so new UI is about to launch across all of the native applications and web app, as well as the admin console for the products," said Guccione. "That's in final QA right now."
He described the team's continued focus on privileged and secure remote access: "We're spending a lot of time around fulfilling unmet customer needs around privileged access, secure remote access or what we call zero trust remote network access - very powerful applications that allow you to just get a better picture of what's happening in the environment and basically monitor everything that's happening both internally and externally from a threat perspective. So super exciting times right now."
Guccione also highlighted Keeper Security's commitment to localisation and accessibility within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The company supports its offerings in 21 languages across more than 130 countries. "The website and all of the applications, including user manuals, everything is localised in 21 different languages across over 130 countries," he remarked.
For potential partners, enterprise users or customers wishing to engage, Keeper's approach is tailored to the user's location and preferences. "From a unified basis, just simply go to the website and it'll auto-detect the country that you're in and we localise everything that we do."
The conversation with Guccione closed on a note of anticipation regarding the company's future in the region. "It has been a pleasure learning more about Keeper Security and what you guys do," concluded the interviewer. "We look forward to hearing more from Keeper very soon."
