Zyxel Networks has launched the XS1935 series of 10G multi-gigabit switches for small and medium-sized businesses, targeting firms facing network congestion as device counts and traffic demands rise.

The series includes three models: the XS1935-12F, XS1935-10 and XS1935-12HP. They are designed to address common problems in smaller business networks, including slow file transfers, stalled backups, lag during multi-user access and buffering on security camera feeds.

A key part of the launch is 10G on every port across the range, supporting newer equipment such as WiFi 7 access points, servers, network-attached storage systems, professional AV-over-IP devices and multi-camera systems used in smart city applications.

Zyxel has also introduced an all-fibre option in the XS1935-12F. That model offers 10G fibre connectivity on every port and is aimed at businesses that need aggregation or longer-distance connections without moving to a larger switch platform.

Power demands

One model in the range also targets rising power requirements from connected equipment. The switches can deliver PoE++ of up to 90W per port, with a total power budget of 400W, for devices such as WiFi access points, PTZ cameras, internet of things hardware and video conferencing systems.

Delivering both power and network connectivity through the same cable can reduce cabling needs and simplify installation, particularly in offices and surveillance deployments where multiple devices are spread across a site.

Management options

The XS1935 series uses Zyxel's NebulaFlex system, which lets users switch between standalone management and the vendor's Nebula cloud management platform. This gives businesses the option to keep local control or move to centralised remote management as their requirements change.

The switches also include Lite-L3 functions such as VLAN, Quality of Service, link aggregation and L3 static routing. These features are intended to help businesses manage traffic, segment networks and maintain network performance as usage grows.

Some additional functions require an extra licence rather than being included as standard. According to Zyxel, advanced L3 routing and NetworkedAV mode for professional AV-over-IP deployments can be unlocked with an Access L3 Licence, allowing customers to add features later without replacing hardware.

The launch comes as smaller firms face pressure to upgrade network infrastructure to support a broader mix of bandwidth-heavy and power-hungry devices. Wireless access points, higher-resolution security cameras, storage systems and collaboration equipment have increased network loads in workplaces that often still rely on older switches.

Zyxel is positioning the XS1935 series as a way for businesses to expand capacity without overhauling an entire network. The 10-port and 12-port formats are intended to provide room for growth without pushing smaller customers towards larger systems they may not need.

Packaging change

Alongside the hardware launch, Zyxel has changed the packaging used for the new range. The company said carbon emissions associated with the packaging have been reduced by 30% compared with the previous-generation XS1930 series.

The announcement also reflects a wider industry effort to combine network upgrades with lower environmental impact in areas such as packaging and shipping, even where buying decisions remain tied mainly to bandwidth, power and management needs.

In a statement, the company framed the launch around the limits of legacy switching equipment in smaller organisations.

"Small businesses should not have to replace their entire network just because a switch has become the weak link," said Mr Gary Chen, ANZ Regional Head, Zyxel Networks.

"The XS1935 series gives them the 10G performance needed to get more from the technology they already rely on, with the flexibility to add new devices and capabilities as the business grows. It means they can invest for what they need now, while knowing their network is ready for what comes next," Chen said.
