Amazon Bedrock enhances AI application development for businesses

Wed, 1st May 2024

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled a series of enhancements to its Amazon Bedrock platform, designed to transform the ease, speed, and security with which customers can develop and deploy advanced generative artificial intelligence (AI) applications. The tools empower businesses to streamline the optimisation of their AI strategies, accelerating operational efficiencies and shaping innovative industry solutions.

Amazon Bedrock's primary goal is to revolutionise how companies utilise Generative AI, helping them better meet their business objectives. Already in use by tens of thousands of customers and partners, the Amazon Bedrock toolkit equips businesses with the resources they need to expediently develop and deploy generative AI applications securely without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure. Its wide array of leading foundation models from diverse creators, such as AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Cohere, and Amazon, enables seamless deployment, scalability, and the continual optimisation of services across a broad spectrum of use cases.

Diverse organisations, from emerging start-ups to well-established enterprises in every sector, are already leveraging Amazon Bedrock’s innovative toolbox. For example, the New York Stock Exchange is effectively utilising Amazon Bedrock's range of models and cutting-edge AI generative capabilities to simplify its regulatory practices. Meanwhile, Netsmart, a tech company specialising in electronic health records, is optimising the clinical documentation process for healthcare providers with Amazon Bedrock, aiming to reduce time spent managing health records by up to 50%.

The latest advancements introduced by AWS include new Custom Model Import capabilities, enabling organisations to import and leverage their custom models via Amazon Bedrock's application programming interface. This development encourages broader adoption of generative AI applications, as it extends usability to models developed through tools such as the popular Amazon SageMaker. The platform's new Model Evaluation capabilities streamline the process of comparing and selecting the most suitable model for an organisation's specific use case, dramatically reducing the hours previously required for model analysis.

In recognising the need for responsible AI use, AWS has also introduced Guardrails for Amazon Bedrock. This ensures comprehensive safety protection for Amazon Bedrock users, blocking up to 85% of harmful content and standardising safety and privacy controls across generative AI applications. Guardrails is the only solution offered by a leading cloud provider that provides customers with built-in and custom safeguards in a single offering and works with all Amazon Bedrock models, including fine-tuned versions.

Dr Swami Sivasubramanian, Vice President of AI and Data at AWS, stated, "Amazon Bedrock is experiencing explosive growth, with tens of thousands of organisations of all sizes and across all industries choosing it as the foundation for their generative AI strategy. With today’s announcements, we continue to innovate rapidly for our customers by doubling down on our commitment to provide them with the most comprehensive set of capabilities and choice of industry-leading models, further democratising generative AI innovation at scale."
