Canada's High Commissioner visits Genetec Sydney centre

Thu, 23rd Apr 2026 (Today)

The High Commissioner of Canada to Australia has visited Genetec's Sydney Experience Centre, marking two years since the site opened.

Located in Sydney's Tech Central precinct at 477 Pitt Street, the facility serves as a regional site for customers and partners. It complements similar centres in Montreal, Paris, London, Mexico City, Washington D.C., Dubai and Singapore.

The Sydney site showcases a range of security and operational systems from Genetec and its partners, including video management, access control, number plate recognition, security and communications management, and cloud-based services.

It also functions as a working Security Operations Centre, with an Internet of Things wall, a dedicated training centre and workspace for Genetec's Oceania team.

The centre currently hosts more than 20 employees, with room for further hiring in Australia. Hundreds of executives and partners have visited since it opened.

Her Excellency Julie Sunday's visit puts a diplomatic spotlight on a Canadian technology company expanding its presence in Australia. The Sydney centre supports Genetec's work with private sector organisations, government agencies and critical infrastructure operators.

Canada's High Commissioner linked the company's Australian operations to broader economic and security ties between the two countries.

"Genetec is a Canadian leader delivering world‐class security technologies that support Australia's critical infrastructure and public safety. Genetec's expansion in Australia demonstrates how Canadian innovation is creating local jobs while strengthening security cooperation between our two countries," said Her Excellency Julie Sunday, High Commissioner of Canada to Australia.

Headquartered in Montreal, Genetec has built its business around physical security software and related systems. Its products cover video surveillance, access control and automatic number plate recognition, alongside tools such as intrusion detection, intercoms and digital evidence management.

The company says it serves more than 42,500 customers across 159 countries through a network of channel partners and consultants. In Australia, the Sydney centre forms part of its strategy to deepen local customer engagement while giving partners a venue for demonstrations and training.

Local presence

The Australian facility is positioned as both a showcase and an operational hub. Alongside system demonstrations, it is intended to support channel partners and customer teams working on physical security projects.

That focus on training is reflected in the site's design, with a dedicated area where partner and customer teams can work through security-related requirements in person.

For businesses selling into regulated sectors and government, local presence often matters as much as product range. A staffed site in central Sydney gives Genetec a base for meetings, demonstrations and ongoing engagement in one of Australia's main technology and business districts.

Regional strategy

Genetec's Oceania leadership used the anniversary to underline its continued investment in the market. Country Manager Oceania George Moawad said Australia remains an important market as demand continues from enterprise, government and infrastructure customers.

"Genetec continues to invest significantly in Australia and plays a lead role in supporting teams from private sector enterprises, government agencies and critical infrastructure to strengthen and reinforce their physical security posture as well as drive digital resilience and accelerate innovation," said George Moawad, Country Manager Oceania, Genetec Inc.

"The Genetec Sydney Experience Centre reflects our deep commitment to Australia as a trusted global leader combining state-of-the-art capabilities and an unparalleled emphasis on training and innovation. We're able to provide our valued channel partners, technology partners, and end users an opportunity to experience first-hand the innovative technology and solutions that Genetec has to offer," Moawad said.
