CASwell launches CAR-6040 with enhanced AI support for cybersecurity

Thu, 21st Nov 2024

CASwell has introduced the CAR-6040, a 2U rackmount device focused on networking and cybersecurity solutions, equipped with Intel's 5th Generation Xeon Scalable Processors.

The CAR-6040 is designed to accommodate up to 64 performance cores and supports over 64 Ethernet ports, employing CASwell's proprietary network modules. Its capabilities make it suitable for a variety of applications, including network management and protection. This system aims to enhance business operations and security significantly.

In the realm of cybersecurity, the CAR-6040 is particularly proficient in Unified Threat Management and Next-Generation Firewall applications. An organisation can tailor its security policies and manage reporting effectively with this appliance. Furthermore, it allows for integration with an Intrusion Detection System to oversee networks for threats, alongside application intelligence for advanced security algorithms.

Powered by Intel's latest processor generation, Emerald Rapids, the CAR-6040 marks a performance upgrade from the previous Sapphire Rapids version. With a core increase from 60 to 64 and a nearly tripled internal cache size of 5 to 1.875 Mbyte per core, the system is well-suited for tasks involving artificial intelligence algorithms and machine learning. These enhancements are complemented by support for faster DDR5 memory speeds and the inclusion of Advanced Matrix Extensions for accelerating AI inferencing.

The CAR-6040's flexible networking capabilities are bolstered by support for up to eight CASwell NIN network modules, achieving up to 64 Ethernet ports and 100-GbE data transfer speeds. Additional network capabilities can be expanded using the internal PCI Express 5.0 slot. This slot is versatile, allowing for network card installations or the addition of a GPU or DPU accelerator card to augment AI performance.

From a storage perspective, the device includes two M.2 slots and four SATA 3.0 connectors for connecting hard drives and SSDs. Ensuring reliability, the CAR-6040 is equipped with two redundant 800-watt power supply units, offering continued operation even in the case of a failure.

Offering both performance and flexibility, the CAR-6040 leverages the latest Intel Xeon CPU architecture, targeting high-end networking needs and cybersecurity solutions that utilise artificial intelligence. Such capabilities make this system particularly suitable for data centres and medium to large enterprises looking to optimise their network applications.

The CAR-6040 is available for customer evaluation, with configurations customizable to meet specific customer requirements.
