Data success linked to AI through effective management
A new report by Publicis Sapient has underscored the pivotal role data management plays in successful AI implementation, highlighting a growing divergence between organisations with mature data strategies and those lagging behind.
The System Modernisation Report, drawing on insights from 1,000 executives across 12 nations including Australia, has identified a clear divide between "data leaders" who effectively utilise data for technological advancement and "data laggards" who are hindered by underdeveloped data strategies.
Central to the report's findings is the ability of data leaders to leverage technologies such as AI and machine learning to enhance customer experiences. Conversely, companies with nascent data strategies face notable challenges in adopting these technologies effectively.
The research outlines a contrast in priorities between different tiers within organisations. It was found that 65% of C-suite executives prioritise security and compliance measures, whereas 56% of Vice-President level executives are more focused on data management and predictive analytics, seeing automation, machine learning, and AI as key competitive edges.
Cost remains a significant hurdle, with only 28% of companies managing to stay within budget concerning data strategy initiatives. Furthermore, 36% experience difficulties integrating cloud solutions, presenting further challenges to technological advancement.
Angela Robinson, Country Managing Director, Publicis Sapient Australia, stated, "Data powers the digital economy, shaping strategy, better customer experiences, business growth and driving the adoption of new technology. Some companies have already carved out a data leadership position which is powering the successful implementation of generative AI within their business. However, data laggards still have the opportunity to grasp second-mover advantage, by embracing a flexible data strategy and avoiding common missteps to optimise their AI investments."
Robinson further highlighted the necessity for alignment within organisations, noting, "Both leaders and laggards must bridge the growing divide between C-suite and VP-level priorities if they are to be successful. The System Modernisation Report underscores the critical need for Australian businesses to align internally and balance both innovation and foundational stability in what is fast moving environment."
