Fitness & Lifestyle Group modernises HR & finance with Workday
Fitness & Lifestyle Group has selected Workday to modernise its human resources and financial operations across its businesses in the Asia Pacific region.
The group, which manages well-known brands such as Fitness First Australia, Goodlife Health Clubs, Jetts Fitness in New Zealand and Thailand, Zap Fitness, and Barry's, operates more than 330 clubs across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and Singapore. Employing over 6,000 people and serving a membership base of more than 600,000, Fitness & Lifestyle Group (FLG) intends to unify its systems as it continues to expand in the region.
System goals
FLG is implementing the Workday Financial Management, Human Capital Management (HCM), Payroll, and Adaptive Planning platforms. According to the company, these systems will provide real-time operational insights and greater agility, supporting decision-making as FLG grows its multinational operations.
The need for a unified platform that could support expansion and simplify operations across multiple brands and countries was a key driver behind the decision. Through Workday, FLG aims to recruit and onboard staff at scale, gain real-time visibility into operations across all brands and locations, and access a consolidated view of people and finance data.
Additionally, FLG seeks to enhance compliance, controls, and reporting functionality for its complex multinational structure, as well as automate manual processes. This automation is expected to allow managers and teams to spend more time engaging with employees and shaping the customer experience, while also ensuring finance, HR and payroll teams can scale to match organisational growth.
Workday's platform includes the Illuminate solution, which offers embedded artificial intelligence capabilities designed to help businesses improve efficiency and re-allocate resources to more strategic tasks.
Leadership perspectives
"At FLG, we believe the heart of our business is our people. As we continue to grow across the region, having a unified, intelligent platform like Workday enables us to simplify complexity, empower our teams, and unlock the full potential of our workforce. This is more than a systems upgrade – it's a strategic investment in our people and our future," said Greg Oliver, CEO and Managing Director of Fitness & Lifestyle Group.
Jo-Anne Ruhl, Vice President and Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand at Workday, commented on the selection by FLG:
"Fitness & Lifestyle Group is focused on delivering a world-class experience for its members and employees, and modernising its technology foundation is key to that vision. By selecting Workday, FLG is ensuring it has the agility, insights, and operational strength to support its rapid expansion, navigate workforce challenges, and meet evolving customer expectations - all while setting a new standard for digital transformation in the fitness industry."
Workday in the region
Other Workday customers in Australia and New Zealand include Telstra, Transurban, Genesis Energy, Hungry Jacks, Deakin University, RMIT, Salvation Army, and the Whittlesea and Ipswich Councils. Workday Payroll became generally available in Australia in March last year. Designed to allow customers more control over payroll processes, the platform features continuous payroll calculations and built-in reporting within the Workday environment. Workday is also a partner of the Australian Payroll Association, supporting payroll leaders with education and consulting services nationwide.
Continued growth
FLG, established in 2016 and headquartered in Australia with regional offices in Southeast Asia, anticipates an increase in its employee numbers as it continues to expand its operations. The company said the new systems aim to make it easier to manage the growing workforce and support its mission to empower its global community to live stronger, happier lives. The implementation of Workday is positioned as a step towards consolidating its human resource and finance functions.
