Fivetran reveals Hybrid Deployment for secure data management

Wed, 25th Sep 2024

Fivetran has introduced Hybrid Deployment, a new solution designed to enable customers to securely manage data pipelines within their own infrastructure using the Fivetran platform. This approach provides a unified interface to manage all data sources, including those from cloud-based SaaS applications and legacy databases that necessitate heightened control and regulatory compliance.

George Fraser, CEO of Fivetran, commented on the innovation: "Introducing a hybrid cloud deployment model to the Fivetran platform opens up entirely new possibilities for businesses of all sizes. Businesses no longer have to choose between managed automation and data control. They can now securely move data from all their critical sources—like Salesforce, Workday, Oracle, SAP, other cloud and on-premises databases and ERPs—into a data warehouse or data lake, all while keeping that data under their own control."

The Hybrid Deployment model primarily serves industries with strict regulatory requirements, such as healthcare, life sciences, and financial services. It allows these sectors to centralise sensitive information without compromising on security or compliance standards. "This is especially valuable for industries like healthcare, life sciences, and financial services, where secure, compliant, and reliable data is critical," Fraser added.

Hybrid Deployment employs a separate control and data plane architecture that ensures data remains within the customer's secure environment. A lightweight local connector facilitates data movement while management and monitoring functions are handled via Fivetran's user-friendly interface. This setup aims to alleviate the complex and often costly data centralisation processes traditionally borne by engineering teams.

Vinay Kumar Katta, Managing Delivery Architect at Capgemini, expressed the potential benefits for users: "Fivetran's new hybrid deployment option is a game-changer. Now, customers can easily centralise all their data, regardless of security or compliance requirements, given the ability to separate the control and data plane. Customers will appreciate Fivetran's best-in-class platform that offers the flexibility to choose how and where their pipelines run. We're excited to advance our partnership with Fivetran and help more enterprises modernise their data infrastructure."

The solution also addresses growing concerns over data security and regulatory compliance, highlighted by recent breaches in sectors such as healthcare and financial services. As Ajay Bidani, Data and Insights Manager at Powell Industries, pointed out: "The simplicity of management is the best value of Hybrid Deployment. I know the status of our pipelines and can launch and manage cloud-based and on-premises pipelines directly from one platform. Given our history with on-premises applications, I can say that pipelines going down and requiring restart was quite cumbersome, but Hybrid Deployment has been considerably different."

Hybrid Deployment offers a comprehensive solution that includes monitoring across all pipelines from a single interface, data security through controlled access, and compatibility across major environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and on-premises infrastructure. Users can also take advantage of pre-built connectors and APIs to simplify setup, monitor usage, and control costs.

"phData is excited about Fivetran's new Hybrid Deployment option, which allows our customers in regulated industries like healthcare, life sciences and financial services to scale the configuration and ingestion of highly sensitive datasets on self-managed infrastructure," said Troy Fokken, Chief Architect at phData. "This approach streamlines the data pipeline processes, as customers don't need to self-host software or build DIY pipelines to securely move data from source systems to destination."

A report by IDC suggested that enterprises could realise an average annual productivity gain of USD $1.5 million by transitioning to Fivetran's managed data movement solution, which supports the need for scalable and efficient data practices amidst the rise of AI and machine learning applications.

Fivetran's data integration platform supports high-volume data capture from databases and includes over 500 pre-built connectors for various SaaS applications and data environments. The company's focus on minimal impact on source systems, low latency, and high throughput has earned the trust of more than 6,300 customers globally.
