Laura Malcolm has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Datacom Australia, taking over leadership at the company's Sydney office.
Malcolm, previously serving as General Manager at IT consulting firm Avanade, has been recognised as a business and technology leader with significant experience across consulting and technology sectors in Australia, the Asia-Pacific region, the UK, and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Her leadership at Avanade involved directing a team of more than 800 professionals across Australia. Datacom Group CEO Greg Davidson expressed confidence in Malcolm's broad experience as a significant asset to support the company's expansion in Australia.
Davidson remarked, "Laura has a wealth of experience spanning leadership roles and sales, pre-sales, consulting, strategy and transformation roles. She also has deep technology and consulting expertise, spanning a range of industry sectors and markets, which gives her a strong foundation to lead our team of more than 2500 people in Australia."
Davidson further highlighted Malcolm's alignment with Datacom values, adding, "One of the deciding factors in appointing Laura was that her own values are strongly aligned with our Datacom values – she believes in building customer-centric, talented and inclusive teams, with a strong focus on culture and belonging."
The search for a new Managing Director was extensive following the departure of Alex Coates, who served over 12 years in the business. Malcolm's previous roles included significant positions such as the Growth & Strategy Lead for Avanade Growth Markets, UK Digital Lead, and Global Advisory Practice Lead, indicating extensive experience in various strategic and leadership capacities.
Before joining Avanade, Malcolm held roles within major technology companies such as Oracle, Capgemini, IBM, and EDS, as well as engagements with several technology startups.
