Leidos to manage ICT services for Geoscience Australia upgrade

Leidos Australia has been selected to provide managed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services for Geoscience Australia, supporting its organisational transformation.

The contract involves Leidos overseeing critical ICT infrastructure and a range of support services necessary for Geoscience Australia to deliver essential Earth science data and public safety information to government, the community, and industry users.

Under the terms of the agreement, Leidos Australia will manage a broad spectrum of ICT requirements including on-premise infrastructure, application support, cloud platforms, network services, cybersecurity, as well as help-desk and TechBar offerings. The company will have responsibility for maintaining core systems, ensuring service continuity, and advancing overall ICT transformation efforts at Geoscience Australia.

Service delivery

The involvement of Leidos Australia aims to optimise the ICT experience for Geoscience Australia by maintaining stable and secure digital operations while enabling improvements through ongoing technology uplift projects. The contract is intended to underpin the capacity of Geoscience Australia to deliver reliable and timely public data for scientific and safety purposes.

The contract marks an extension of Leidos Australia's role within the civil government IT sector, where it currently provides services to agencies such as the Australian Tax Office, the Bureau of Meteorology, and the Department of Home Affairs. The company's appointment to the Geoscience Australia contract is aligned with its existing participation in securing, sustaining, and modernising key national ICT systems.

Scope of services

Amongst the core responsibilities assumed by Leidos Australia are end-to-end ICT management duties. These include monitoring and maintaining on-premise hardware, supporting and upgrading applications, managing network and cybersecurity operations, and providing front-line technology assistance through dedicated help-desk and walk-up TechBar services.

The contract is also expected to involve Leidos in ongoing technology upgrades and transformation programmes designed to keep Geoscience Australia's systems resilient and adaptable to future mission requirements. This includes integration with cloud infrastructure and improvements to operational processes.
