NetApp extends successful data partnership with Aston Martin F1 team
Wed, 7th Feb 2024

The intelligent data infrastructure company NetApp has recently declared that its partnership with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team will continue. The company’s exceptional data infrastructure has been instrumental in supporting the racing team to consistently perform at their best, leading to eight top-three finishes in the 2023 season.

The critical role of data in Formula One is clear; real-time data sharing and in-depth insights are indispensable for making informed decisions to optimise race performance. The collected data goes a long way in running simulations that prepare the teams to anticipate and respond to potential situations during a race, such as changes in weather conditions.

The renewed partnership between Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team and NetApp signifies the continuation of a successful collaboration established in 2021 after the racing team's comeback to Formula One after more than 60 years. NetApp's services have been vital in enabling Aston Martin Aramco to efficiently store, manage, and access the vast amounts of data required to refine their performance. Their real-time access to myriad performance statistics such as track temperature, tire degradation, and aerodynamics, has been pivotal to their progress.

Discussing the renewing of the partnership, Clare Lansley, CIO of Aston Martin Aramco, stated, "We are delighted to renew our partnership with NetApp as we enter our fourth season together since returning to Formula One in 2021. NetApp has been with us all the way on this journey together and are fundamental to our trackside operations and at our Headquarters at the AMRTC in Silverstone. We use data to improve our performance and go faster and NetApp's work with the team is vital to this success."

The partnership with NetApp has offered tangible benefits to Aston Martin Aramco. The team reached the podium eight times, scored 280 points, and finished fifth in the Constructors Championship in the 2023 Formula One season. In collaboration with NetApp, the team has achieved instant data access, improved reliability, insights in data observability, advanced security measures, and strategic scalability options.

Gabie Boko, Chief Marketing Officer at NetApp, remarked on the partnership, "NetApp and the Aston Martin Aramco team are well matched as partners because we are both dedicated to the pursuit of breakthrough performance and true innovation. When Aston Martin returned to the Formula One circuit after more than 60 years away, they needed a technology partner to help them rise to every moment, both on and off the track. NetApp provides Aston Martin Aramco with an intelligent data infrastructure that runs at the speed of Formula One."

The intelligent data solutions offered by NetApp has given Aston Martin Aramco a clear competitive edge. The ability to quickly harness and access stored data has empowered the team to innovate relentlessly in their quest for faster vehicles and optimised race strategy, according to the company.
