Zeekr 7X gets over-the-air update for Australian owners

Zeekr has rolled out its first over-the-air software update for Zeekr 7X owners in Australia, adding new functions to vehicles already on the road.
All Zeekr 7X owners in the country will receive the software automatically through the vehicle interface. The changes focus on parking assistance, digital access, in-car alerts and Apple CarPlay.
New features
The most notable addition is Remote Smart Parking Assist with straight-line functionality. It allows drivers to move the vehicle forwards or backwards remotely using an Apple smartphone, helping them enter or leave tight garages and narrow parking spaces.
The update also introduces CCC 3.0 digital key support for Apple devices, allowing drivers to unlock and access the vehicle with a smartphone instead of a physical key.
Inside the car, the update changes alert tones for turn signals and other vehicle notifications. Zeekr said the revisions are intended to improve clarity while making sounds less intrusive for drivers and passengers.
Apple CarPlay has also been revised. Zeekr said the changes are designed to deliver smoother performance and easier use across navigation, communication and entertainment functions.
Industry shift
The rollout reflects a broader shift in the car industry, where software updates are increasingly used to add or refine features after a vehicle has been sold. For electric vehicle makers in particular, remote updates have become a way to change the ownership experience without requiring a workshop visit.
For Zeekr, the Australian update comes as the Geely-owned electric vehicle brand expands its presence outside China. The company says it has delivered nearly 720,000 vehicles since starting customer deliveries in 2021.
Its current line-up includes the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 009, Zeekr X, Zeekr 007 and Zeekr 7X. Zeekr also said it has research and development centres and design studios in Gothenburg, Ningbo, Hangzhou and Shanghai.
Growing competition
Software-led development has become an important area of competition among newer electric vehicle brands, which often seek to stand out through connected services, smartphone integration and remote feature updates. Established carmakers have also invested heavily in similar systems as buyers increasingly expect cars to function more like consumer electronics.
In Australia, the use of over-the-air updates remains uneven across brands and models, but the practice is becoming more common in electric and higher-end vehicles. Updates can range from bug fixes and user interface changes to safety-related revisions and entirely new functions.
Zeekr said the latest package was designed to improve daily usability for 7X owners rather than change the vehicle mechanically. It described the release as part of an approach in which vehicles continue to receive improvements over time after delivery.
Executive comment
"This update is exactly what modern electric ownership should deliver. Our 7X customers are gaining new features that make their vehicle even smarter, easier to live with and more enjoyable to drive. It reflects our commitment to continuous innovation and delivering real benefits over time," said Frank Li.
