Capgemini unveils generative AI solutions for engineering

Thu, 31st Oct 2024

Capgemini has announced an expansion of its generative AI portfolio with new solutions specifically for engineering and research and development (R&D).

The newly launched services aim to assist organisations in expediting their R&D efforts and augment engineering processes at every stage of the product development lifecycle. Capgemini's expertise in both engineering and AI positions it to aid businesses in transforming their processes towards more intelligent industries.

The 'augmented engineering' solutions leverage a hybrid AI approach, integrating generative AI and various engineering and scientific models. This combination enables precise, quality-focused, and regulation-compliant outcomes for engineering and scientific fields. Engineering demands detailed data capture, and there is a distinct variance between applications like photo-realistic video and schematic diagrams of avionics systems despite both being graphical representations.

Designed to offer immediate benefits, Capgemini's initial set of generative AI offerings includes four primary services. 'Augmented R&D Discovery' is designed to hasten scientific discoveries and streamline R&D processes. This solution aids in identifying innovative scientific methods and formulating new products. Its applications span several industries, including pharmaceuticals, aviation, and consumer goods.

The 'Augmented Software Product Engineering' service provides a comprehensive approach to enhance product innovation, quality, and development efficiency. It includes lifecycle accelerators focusing on product requirements, code generation, and migration.

'Augmented Product Support & Services' uses a generative AI assistant to simplify product support, reduce support engineers' workloads, and improve customer experiences across industries like telecommunications and healthcare. This service automates support processes and eliminates language barriers.

The 'Augmented Product Technical Publications' service delivers the necessary documentation for effective product utilisation. Capgemini offers a model to optimise documentation processes, significantly reducing the time for data retrieval and technical publication authoring.

Franck Greverie, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Portfolio Officer at Capgemini, stated, "Gen AI has the potential to turn innovative technology into engineering value, with products and services reaching new levels of intelligence and effectiveness. Our set of new 'Augmented Engineering' solutions are designed to take engineering and R&D to their next level and help clients to accelerate towards more intelligent products and services."

He added, "We are proud to be the preferred partner of industry leaders to support their ongoing transformation of engineering and R&D processes and help them drive innovation and breakthrough discoveries. Given the demanding context of engineering that requires precision, regulatory compliance and risk tolerance, we are developing tailored solutions, augmented with Gen AI, to empower researchers, streamline processes and unlock substantial creativity and high-quality outcomes."

Capgemini's leadership in AI and engineering is acknowledged in various industry ratings. In Q2 2024, it was named a Leader in The Forrester Wave: AI services and in the 2024 Zinnov Zones Ratings for its overall capabilities in engineering, R&D, and digital engineering services.

The company announced an investment plan in July 2023, allocating USD $2.16 billion over three years to fortify its prominence in AI. As part of this initiative, over 120,000 team members have been trained in generative AI tools.

Capgemini continues to invest in its service portfolio to customise solutions by industry and provide next-generation AI solutions for enterprises. The company is also expanding its partnerships with tech giants like Google Cloud, Microsoft, Salesforce, and others to enhance its service offerings.
